September 4 - 10, 2022 WHATS UP! T11 54th Street, in front of the show's home at the Ed Sullivan Theater — where the Conrad is located. It's certainly a distinctive building, though not just be- cause of the dramatic lighting that's on it at night, making it stand out as a splash of warm pink/orange in a sea of cold blues. It's also distinctive be- cause of the circle of walls at the top that look a little like the ram- parts of a castle. (I can't say I'm seeing the folding-chair similari- ty you are, but these things are subjective.) Being shot in New York is in "The Late Show's" blood — more so than its host, who we all know changes periodically. Its current host, Colbert, is from South Carolina, while his prede- cessor, David Letterman, was from Indiana. But it's unlikely ei- ther even considered projecting their hometowns onto the screen behind them. Q: I heard a little while ago that they're doing a "Justi- fied" spinoff. What's happen- ing with that? A: Well, it's not really a spinoff anymore, for starters: it's a full- blown revival. Before you get your hopes up too high, "full-blown revival" in this case means just eight epi- sodes. There are no current plans to bring it back as a recur- ring series. It will, however, very much be a continuation of char- acter Raylan Givens' story. Tim- othy Olyphant ("Go," 1999) will also return to play the throw- back lawman. The series, "Justified: City Pri- meval," recently finished shoot- ing, so eager fans can assume they are currently in the post- production stages. Deadline.com reports that the limited series picks up seven years after the story in the origi- nal series ends, with Raylan Giv- ens now living in Miami, balanc- ing life as a U.S. Marshal with his duties as a part-time dad to 14-year-old Willa. (In a cute little detail, Willa will be played by Olyphant's real-life daughter, Vivian.) Soon, circumstances conspire to send Givens to Detroit on the trail of a violent sociopath nick- named the Oklahoma Wildman, who has so far eluded Motor City police. The revival series promises to please fans of the original, not only because Olyphant returns (as does original series creator Graham Yost), but because, like the original, the revival is based directly on a novel by the great thriller writer Elmore Leonard. It draws its plot directly from Leonard's "City Primeval: High Noon in Detroit" (though ad- justments will almost certainly be made to adapt it for TV, as al- ways). The suits at FX are certainly excited, too. "To have this group come to- gether again with Tim as Raylan in a new and different Elmore Leonard story is thrilling," Eric Schrier, president of FX Enter- tainment, said. As for the release date, that has yet to be announced. Have a question? Email us at questions@tvtabloid.com. Please include your name and town. Advance Pest Control 2 x 2 TAKE 5 Solution on page T23 Use the clues above and beside the grid to fill in the squares BY ADAM THOMLISON TV Media Q: I was watching "The Price is Right" and it said the director was Adam Sandler. Is that the Adam Sandler? A: Wouldn't it be delightful if it was? Adam Sandler, the "Saturday Night Live" alumnus who has become a big-screen comedy franchise unto himself thanks to hits such as "The Wedding Sing- er" (1998) and "Big Daddy" (1999), does have a history with the landmark game show "The Price Is Right." That said, the current director of the show is a different Adam Sandler. The acting Sandler is clearly a fan, though. He cast previous "Price Is Right" host Bob Barker in a very memorable cameo in his comedy hit "Happy Gilm- ore" (1996), in which Barker gets to beat up Sandler on a golf course. Sandler also wrote a scene in his 2011 film "Jack and Jill" in which his character is a contes- tant on "The Price Is Right," tor- menting the show's current host, Drew Carey. That all makes it a wonderful coincidence that the game show's director and execu- tive producer is also named Adam Sandler. What's more, director Sandler's involvement with the show reaches all the way back to the mid-'90s, meaning he was around at the time the actor was getting up to all his related hi- jinks. Indeed, the "The Price Is Right's" Sandler has devoted his career to the show and has grown along with it. Prior to (and along with) directing, he's performed a number of different roles for the show, including stage manager, editorial consul- tant and producer. Q: This is driving me crazy! What is that tall pink/orange thing in the cityscape behind Stephen Colbert during his monologue? It looks like the webbing on a folding outdoor chair to me. A: It's the Conrad New York Midtown hotel and, in your de- fense, during the day it's more of a beige. Stephen Colbert's "Late Show" monologues are per- formed in front of a video screen projecting an image of the Man- hattan skyline — specifically, part of it that runs along West Bob Barker and Adam Sandler in "Happy Gilmore" HOLLYWOOD Q&A www.advancepestcontrolnwa.com Family Owned, Competitively Priced, Quality Service Since 1981 Rogers 479-636-5590 Springdale 479-756-1788 Eureka Springs 479-253-8967 PEST CONTROL TERMITE FERTILIZATION WEED CONTROL PRE-EMERGENTS
