September 4 - 10, 2022 WHATS UP! T7 BY MICHELLE ROSE TV Media B each picnics and backyard cookouts are the most popular op- tions for Labor Day meals, but maybe you'd rather spend a quiet holiday week- end out on the water with a fishing rod in hand. Frying up your trophy catch is a satisfying end to a success- ful fishing day/weekend, and while experienced fishers of- ten have a go-to recipe (or two), Food Network has added a few fish-themed episodes to its daytime lineup Sunday, Sept. 4, to help make your La- bor Day fish fry unforgettable. Nestled among the (mostly) grill-themed episodes, Sept. 4's "Girl Meets Farm" finds Molly Yeh "making her very own shore lunch" (per Food Network). She brings the taste of the sea to her farm in East Grand Forks, Minnesota, by cooking up her own version of Corn Flakes-crusted fried fish with tartar sauce. (Here's a fun fact: the walleye is Minneso- ta's state fish, and it's a great option if you want a firm, flaky fillet without an overly fishy taste.) Of course, every good fish dish deserves to be paired with an equally good side dish, so Yeh walks viewers through the steps required to prep a more land-based side dish: saucy stovetop bacon beans. To finish off the meal, consid- er making her strawberry rhu- barb pretzel dessert. Half an hour after "Girl Meets Farm" ends, "Delicious Miss Brown's" Kardea Brown hosts her own fish fry for fam- ily and friends. The food "star" in this episode is her Cajun fried flounder with Di- jon tartar sauce. She also preps Miss Brown's hushpup- pies two ways (traditional, and with okra) and adds some skil- let green beans topped with parmesan and lemon zest to round out the fishy feast. Like Yeh, Brown opts for summer-fresh berries and creamy mini fruit tarts to fin- ish on a sweet note. The rest of Sunday's programming sched- ule is filled with less fish-cen- tric episodes, while Monday's Labor Day lineup (Sept. 5) is shaping up to be a Fieri-and- Flay marathon for those look- ing to kick their feet up and watch someone else do all the work.
