February 2, 2021 • 5:30 - 7PM Monuments to Strangers: Photographs by Johanna Warwick Catering is provided by Two Brothers Catering and presents KIWANIS OFFICE OF THE MAYOR PROCLAMATION WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of Fayetteville has a rich and storied history in leading the way toward a better community for all our citizens and the Club upholds the motto of "Serving the Children of the World"; and WHEREAS, in addition to improving lives, Kiwanis Club members promote the development of community leaders, positive role models, intercultural understanding and coop- eration, and opportunities for fellowship, personal growth, professional development and community service; and WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of Fayetteville has created youth programs and currently sponsors 6 Key Clubs in high schools and 2 Builders Clubs in middle schools in Fayetteville, as well as the Ak- tion Club for adults living with disabilities; each of these clubs continue the Kiwanis tradition of service projects and community service activities; and WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of Fayetteville has the world's largest Terrific Kid Program, which promotes self-esteem by encouraging and then rewarding good behavior. e Kiwanians work closely with teachers who select Terrific Kids twice a month; and WHEREAS, member and former Mayor J. 0. Tally once served as President of.Kiwanis International; and WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of Fayetteville is acting as a partner with the City of Fayetteville to improve the Honeycutt Park located at the Kiwanis Recreation Center: and WHEREAS, the service provided by the Kiwanis Club of Fayetteville will continue to have a positive impact on our commu- nity and citizens; and WHEREAS, the Kiwanis Club of Fayetteville was chartered as one of7,700 clubs in 80 countries in 1920 and is celebrating its 100th year; NOW, THEREFORE, I, Mitch Colvin, Mayor of the City of Fayetteville, North Carolina, and on behalf of City Council and more than 208,000 citizens, do hereby honorably proclaim the 1st of De- cember in the year 2020 to honor KIWANIS CLUB OF FAYETTEVILLE In our City of history, heroes and hometown feeling, I call upon our residents to render support to the members of this organiza- tion and to make themselves aware of Kiwanis International, whose members this day are ., providing meaningful service to our homes, schools and community; IN WITNESS WHEREOF, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the Great Seal of the City of Fayetteville to be affixed this 1st day of December, 2020.
