From 1996-2005, under the leadership of Johnny Dawkins, the Club held an annual golf tournament in the memory of Margaret Harris and in Honor of Jillie Dawkins. Margaret was the granddaughter of Past Governor Phil Har- ris and niece of Phil Harris, Jr. who passed away from a brain tumor. Jillie Dawkins is the daugh- ter of Johnny Dawkins and the granddaughter of the late Mayor J. L. Dawkins. e tourna- ment was held at Gates Four every year with great support of the Riddle family. During these years, the tournament raised over $125,000 for Duke brain tumor research and over $25,000 for the Kiwanis Club of Fayetteville to distribute to other service projects. From 2006-2017, the Club was under the leadership of Bruce Brown. During these years, the annual golf tournament was Hope For Kids, that benefited the Cumberland County Child Advocacy Center. is tournament raised over $180,000 for the Child Advocacy Center and over $60,000 for the Kiwanis Club of Fayetteville to use on other service projects. From 2014-2015, Gary Cooper served as the Governor of the Carolinas (NC & SC) of Kiwanis International.
