and they understand our offense with all the things they've gone through." Napier endeavors to prepare the junior Cardinals for high school football compe- tition through close communication with Farmington head football coach Mike Adams. "Everything we do, we want to be verti- cally aligned with our high school so everything that we do, we try to commu- nicate and keep on pace with our varsity program in order for these kids to move forward and have the terminology and everything," Napier said. OFFENSE Quarterback The junior Cardinals have been oper- ating with two ninth-grade quarterbacks. Napier said they are both really good kids. "They are really talented, really athletic kids, and pretty tough, too," Napier said. Myles Harvey and Caden Elsik are rotat- ing in at quarterback. Tailback Freshmen Devonte Donovan and Tate Pickens share time at tailback and each both splits out at wide receiver. "Both are really, talented kids, can move and catch a ball," Napier said. "It's great to have two kids back there like that." Fullback Napier describes freshman fullback Trey Hill as another really tough kid, who is a farm kid raised in an environment similar to Napier. "He's got that grit," Napier said. "He's tough and he'll lower that shoulder and run. He's a great kid to have there at full- back. We'll rotate some other kids in and out at that position as well." Tight End Freshman Chase Brown is the starter with Sam Abies as the backup. Wide Receiver "We'll have Tate Pickens there, he's also a kid I talked about at tailback," Napier said. "Great wide receiver, good at block- ing in space, and has some great hands on him as well." Kyler Petrie is the other receiver, who Napier says can catch the ball and carries out blocking assignments with the same enthusiasm as when he is the intended receiver. Marcus Clevenger is a backup. Offensive Line Jackson Boudrey and Braden Bullington play center. "Both big kids that are strong, and typi- cal big, lineman kids," Napier said. Mason Dooly mans right guard. Alec Duncan plays right tackle and also middle linebacker on defense, whom Napier says has enough strength to do things. Drake Lambert is at left guard along with Britt Lindsey. Weston Phillips plays left tackle. DEFENSE Defensive Line At defensive end, Lindsey, Dooly, Lambert, and Phillips will all play. Boudrey plays nose guard. "These kids will all be rotating in when we get into the season and start playing some games," Napier said. " Lambert also plays defensive tackle "What Coach (Mike) Adams is looking for at the high school is going to move these boys up vertically, as well," Napier said. Linebackers Trey Hill plays middle linebacker along with Alec Duncan, who also plays defen- sive tackle. Myles Harvey also is in the mix. "Those are three good kids that can play the Mike or the Wheel position for us," Napier said. Elsik and Brown align themselves at outside linebacker. "Myles Harvey will rep there and back those kids up," Napier said. "All three of those kids will be able to play there at outside linebacker." Secondary Clevenger and Walker McCumber play cornerback with Kyler Petrie. Safeties are Donovan and Pickens with Kyler Petrie also working at safety. "We've been moving him through the secondary," Napier said. SPECIAL TEAMS Elsik and Sam Wells handle punting chores. Napier wasted no time getting placekicking in order. By the second week of August, he reported progress. "We've got it all installed and ready to go for the season," Napier said. "We've got our special teams installed and we're moving forward with that."
