From the chairman Am I the only one who thinks that we just fin- ished with Christmas a little while ago and here we are getting ready for Round-Up? Time does fly, doesn't it? As always, there is lots of going on in our cham- ber, and in our community. Here are just a few of the things that have "flown by" recently: Our most recent Busi- ness Expo — BEAM — was a huge success. There were 70 exhibitors displaying infor- mation about their services and products and more than 450 visitors came to see what's going on. Lots of leads for the exhibitors and lots of door prizes for the visitors. Another great success. Dave and I made our quarterly report to the City Council just a week or so ago, catching them up to date with information about the chamber's activ- ities. Here's a quick update on where we're headed. On March 3-5 the third annual Gold Country Cut- ting Horse event took place at the fairgrounds. There was a Chamber Meet-N- Greet on Friday evening, March 3. Our next Business Semi- nar, "Pricing Your Products and Services to Maximize Profits" will be held March 9 from 9-11 a.m. at the Hol- iday Inn Express on North Main Street. The Butte Col- lege CDC is partnering with us to present this opportu- nity to grow your business. It's open to members and non-members and is free. You can register by going to the Chamber website. The Eleven Days of Round-Up are just around the corner. As always, our chamber staff is coordinat- ing almost 30 different ac- tivities and events starting on Friday, April 13 and fin- ishing up on Sunday, April 23. Check our website for specific information about events. Thebusinessofthecham- ber is business. Our staff is here to serve you. Let us know how we can help. Scott Camp, chairman Ambassador's corner Thank you to all our lo- cal businesses who partici- pated in BEAM and made it a successful event. We heard so many positive comments and responses about you and we hope you got as much out of it as our community did. The 11 Days of Round-Up are just around the corner and the Chamber Ambas- sadors are excited to judge the Round-Up Decorating Contest. Call the chamber today to enter your busi- ness in the contest for the chance to win great prizes, and even better, awesome bragging rights. We will also be looking for raffle donations for the Cowboy Golf Tournament. If you have gift certificates, baskets or products that you would be willing to do- nate, please call Amanda Jenkins at 227-2223. We are always looking for community focused people to promote the chamber. If you are interested in learn- ing more about becoming a Chamber Ambassador, let me know. There will be op- portunity to discuss whether the geographical focus should be extended at the meeting. The purpose of the meeting is to: 1. Explore the causes of dilapidated buildings within the proposed Dis- trict Area (vacant build- ings, out of the area prop- erty owners, lack of rental income, etc.) 2. Brainstorm our vision of what the C-BID should look like in 10 years –What do we want to work to- wards? What do we want Corning to look like? 3. Identify what can be done to effect change — regulations that require buildings to be maintained to a certain threshold, reg- ulations to simplify the process to allow for out- door seating, identify regu- lar weekly events that can be done in the downtown corridor to increase foot traffic, etc. 4. Identify next steps. Those with a vested in- terest in our community are welcome and encour- aged to attend and contrib- ute to creating solutions.
