To stay with a solid, energized Atlanta team, the Warriors needed life and a scoring boost from a bench that hasn't been relied upon too heavily in that category this season. Iguodala burst off the bench with some juice, de- spite playing 31 minutes the day before in New York. It'd become the first time since December of 2015 he'd play more than 30 minutes in consecutive reg- ular season games. There didn't seem to be any ill ef- fects on the 33-year-old 13- year vet. "I've been feeling pretty good this whole road trip," Iguodala said. Iguodala nailed two first quarter 3s, forced his way to the free throw line on a drive and rose for a pow- erful dunk. He had nine points in the opening quar- ter, already more than his 6.4-per game average. Without their four All- Stars, trailing the Hawks 52-37 early in the second quarter, the game seemed on the verge of slipping away. But a bench mob steadied the ship. Ian Clark, previously in a deep freeze on the end of the bench, hit two 3s, a floater and a layup for 10 points in 10 minutes for the foul- plagued Thompson. Da- vid West nailed three mid- range jumpers. The Warriors' bench, in- credibly, scored 41 of the team's 61 first half points and brought Golden State to within four by halftime. Iguodala was the ring- leader, scoring 14 in the first half, getting to the free throw line nine times, a clear sign of his bump in aggression. This season, mostly serving as Durant's backup and a fringe offen- sive piece, Iguodala has only shot more than four free throws in a game once. "You notice some of the best 6th men, so-called scorers, they come in and get to the line," Iguodala said. "It's important for us to get to the line, get to the penalty, get us in a groove so our first shot isn't a tough shot." In the second half, the star snipers returned to form. Thompson scored nine in the third quar- ter. Curry finished 6-of-15 from 3, including two dag- gers in the fourth quarter to seal the win. After mak- ing only four of his 35 3s to start the road trip, he made 11 of his final 24, a much more Steph-like number. But those contributions are expected. The bench production, particularly Iguodala's, is what carried the Warriors in Atlanta. The former Finals MVP flashed his complete game in the second half, finish- ing with five rebounds, four assists and three steals. He set up a big Thompson jumper and saved an im- portant possession with a savvy offensive rebound, reading the angle and then swinging it around for an eventual West layup. Those are the un- der-discussed, impor- tant plays Iguodala often makes. What's something he rarely does? Score 24 points, which he did on Monday for the first time since 2013. That included two more 3s in the second half, giv- ing him a season-high four (the Warriors made 20 3s as a team for only the sec- ond time all season) and moved the Warriors to 15-0 all-time when Iguo- dala scores 20 or more points.
