He has also been a big suppor ter of mine and a person I am gratef ul to call my f riend. For well over 40 years, he forged many relat ionships w it h people all for t he sake of music and singing. It is no wonder t hat he st ill lives in t he hear t s of many people here in Fayet tev ille and all t he st udent s t hat passed t hrough Met hodist 's doors." For Mar t in, it is only nat ural to recognize Por ter 's ef for t s, even if it means break ing a few rules. "I am break ing concer t protocol to make sure t hat A lan get s t he oppor t unit y to conduct t he "Requiem". Generally, large mult i-movement pieces are conceived to have no applause bet ween t he movement s, primarily because t hey are all par t of t he same work," said Mar t in. "However, t his t ime, I intend to stop t he "Requiem" before we perform "Lacrimosa", have A lan conduc t t his one par t, and t ake his communit y bow at t hat point . For a man who has done so much for so many, this is something I am excited to assure for him." There are three other performances this season. December 17 at 7:30 p.m., St. Ann Catholic Church hosts the annual "Messiah Sing," which is a free concert. This is what the COS calls its "gif t to the communit y."
