Participants work as a team to solve clues and puzzles to make the ultimate escape in 60 minutes. Up & Coming Weekly's movie reviewer Heather Griff iths booked a tour. Here is her experience. The f irst rule of Escape Room: Fayet tev ille is you can't t alk about Escape Room: Fayet tev ille. For real. I signed a nondisclosure agreement and ever y t hing , so t his rev iew w ill not include a det ailed walk t hrough of t he room my f riends and I escaped. But I can tell you a lit t le bit about t he experience. I wanted to do somet hing for my husband's bir t hday. Coincident ally, I saw t he adver t isement for Escape Room: Fayet tev ille around t he same t ime I was look ing for a good present . A few mont hs back an Escape Room experience was feat ured on The Big Bang Theor y, and it seemed like a good f it . The product ion values of Escape Room: Fayet tev ille were not as good as seen on The Big Bang Theor y, but I wouldn't expec t t hem to be. The point is to solve t he puzzles and escape. The rest is w indow dressing. A s an occasional t abletop gamer married to a reg ular L AR Per (Live Act ion Role Player), I k now t he f un is in agreeing on a shared realit y, and all t he props cont ribute to t hat . Your imaginat ion supplies t he rest . The f irst hurdle was get t ing a big enough group for a par t y to buy t heir t icket s for t he same day. The t icket s are $26 Thursdays and $28 Friday t hrough Sunday, and each room can accommodate up to eight people. The rooms book up quick ly. Even book ing t hree week s ahead, t he select ion was limited. I opted for t he R .I.P: Rest in Pieces room, and t here was a 15-year-old in our group. She enjoyed it as much as t he rest of us. We arrived early, as recommended by t he website (w w w. escaperoomfayet tev illenc.com/ ). First, t here was a v ideo int roduct ion feat uring v iolence towards women t hat probably should not have made me giggle. Then, we were given goggles for blindfolds and lined up for a walk into t he serial k iller 's lair. Our host, Caroline, kept our cellphones and lef t, af ter telling us t hat communicat ion is key to get t ing out of t he room alive. Nat urally, we immediately split of f indiv idually and in groups of t wo to touch ever y t hing and move st uf f around while completely failing to communicate. We soon got ourselves sor ted out, and w it h t hree minutes lef t on t he clock, we found t he key to escaping. We did have some t rouble mak ing t he lock s work, even w it h t he right combinat ions, but our host told us to expec t t hat . In fact, she was ver y helpf ul, chiming in w it h clues when we got too f rust rated. Get t ing out alive made us feel smar t, and we asked how many people solve t he puzzle. Our host told us t hat about a t hird of t he people make it out of t he room before t he t imer dings, signaling t he ret urn of t he k iller. W hat is t he record for quickest escape? About 49 minutes. I liked not k now ing what was going to happen, and I liked t hat we worked toget her on some of t he more dif f icult clues. I would love to go back and see if we could make it t hrough t he ot her rooms, which are supposed to be harder to solve.
