Same-day registration during early voting is available if acceptable documentation is provided. For more information, call 678-7733 or go to co.cumberland.nc.us/elections. Registered voters will be required to show acceptable photo ID at the polls. Examples of acceptable photo ID include North Carolina driver's license or ID card, passport, military ID, Veterans Administration card and certain tribal ID cards. One-Stop Early Voting March 3-12 co.cumberland.nc.us The North Carolina Department of Health and Human Services has awarded a $300,000 grant to the Cumberland County Department of Public Health for the Adolescent Parenting Program. The goals of the Adolescent Parenting Program, which serves pregnant or parenting teens age 19 and younger, are to increase self-sufficiency, delay a subsequent pregnancy and increase graduation rates. The program also aims to improve the welfare and school readiness for children of teen parents and increase positive parenting. The health department will be receive $75,000 annually for four years, beginning June 1 through May 31, 2017. However, funding is contingent upon the availability of funds as determined by the N.C. General Assembly. The program is coordinated by a full-time staff member and includes home visits and peer group education sessions. A full- time staff member would be added to the health department. Cumberland County was targeted for funding based on its five-year average teen pregnancy rate from 2009-2013, which ranked 12th highest in the state. $300,000 Grant Targets Teen Parents The Cumberland County Board of Health has been awarded Outstanding Board of Health of the Year by the Association of North Carolina Boards of Health. The award was presented to the 2015 Board of Health Chair Chris Frank on Jan. 20 at the State Health Director's Conference in Raleigh in recognition of the board's leadership in public health accomplishments. Throughout the 2015 year, the board of health focused on areas in legislative/government, collaborations/ partnerships, innovation, health department activities, and volunteer efforts to support public health efforts throughout the community and to strengthen the Cumberland County Department of Public Health and its efforts to create a healthy community for everyone.
