The team plans to bid for future Super Bowls for the 68,000-seat stadium, which will be built adja- cent to the 49ers' facility. ''It's huge,'' 49ers CEO Jed York said of the league's approval. ''We've been at this since 1997. We'll have shovels in the ground soon.'' Owners approved another part of the funding package two months after the team and Santa Clara announced they'd received an $850 million loan to cover most of the estimated $1 billion cost. The rest of the cost will be covered by the league's loan, a hotel tax and Santa Clara's redevelopment funds. ''We will definitely be in by 2015,'' York said, ''with hopes of 2014.'' Asked about hosting a Super Bowl — the next one available would be the 50th game in 2016 — York said, ''This will definitely be a fitting setting for a Super Bowl game and we will bid.'' The 49ers have to address their current Can- dlestick Park lease with the city of San Francisco that runs through 2014. ''Today's vote is an important milestone for the 49ers and their fans,'' NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said. ''It is a solid endorsement that adds to the strong support of the South Bay community. This step will allow the 49ers to move forward toward making the dream of a new stadium a reality.'' San Francisco is the first franchise approved for funding under the NFL's G-4 loan policy initiated after the new collective bargaining agreement was reached last summer. It replaces a plan that allowed a maximum of $150,000 per team in loans. ''Get your hard hats ready; we are embarking on the path to the next gen- eration of 49ers football,'' York said. MCT file photo The Lakers' Kobe Bryant and the Clippers' Blake Griffin will start for the Western Conference in the 2012 NBA All-Star Game. NEW YORK (AP) — From Kobe Bryant to Chris Paul, Blake Griffin to Andrew Bynum, the NBA All-Star game is shaping up as an L.A. story. Two Lakers and two Clippers were voted as starters Thursday for the game, the first time in 15 years that two pairs of teammates have been voted to start for one conference. Oklahoma City's Kevin Durant prevent- ed a clean Los Angeles sweep of the West- ern Conference starting lineup by earning a forward spot for the Feb. 26 game in Orlan- do. Dwight Howard of the host Magic — unless he's traded first — was the overall leading vote-getter with 1.6 million. LeBron James and Dwyane Wade are going togeth- er again from Miami, while MVP Derrick Rose of Chicago and New York's Carmelo Anthony round out the East starters. The Clippers and Lakers are developing a spirited rivalry this season, but they'll have to get along for a night to give the West a sec- ond straight win in the NBA's midseason event. Bryant and Paul will be in the same back- court two months after the NBA, as owners of the Hornets, killed a trade that would have sent Paul to the Lakers. Instead, he was dealt shortly after to the Clippers, and he has teamed with Griffin to make them one of the league's most exciting and improved teams, leading the Pacific Division over their Sta- ples Center co-tenants. ''It's an honor and a privilege to be voted as an All-Star starter,'' Paul said. ''I want to thank the fans for their support. It's even more special to be starting with one of my teammates.'' Griffin and Bynum are first-time starters, while Bryant earned his record-tying 14th consecutive nod. It's the first time since 1997, when Hous- ton had Hakeem Olajuwon and Charles Barkley, and Seattle sent Gary Payton and Shawn Kemp, that two pairs of teammates have been voted to start for one conference. Bryant joins Shaquille O'Neal, Jerry West and Karl Malone — all one-time Lak- ers — with his 14th straight starting nod. He earned his fourth All-Star MVP award last year, equaling Bob Pettit's NBA record. Bynum grabbed the starting center spot that for years went to Yao Ming, who retired last summer. Griffin was chosen as a reserve forward last year, when he became the first rookie All-Star since Yao in 2003. Starters were chosen by fan balloting, and none of the races was close. The reserves will be chosen by voting of the head coaches from each conference and will be announced next Thursday. Bryant led all West players with nearly 1.6 million votes. Rose collected 1.5 million to finish third among all players, a year after becoming Chicago's first starter since Michael Jordan. ''I remember not being in the All-Star game, just wanting to be in the game. It's something you should take to heart, that I take to heart,'' Rose said before the Bulls' game against the Knicks. ''Just want to accomplish something special while I'm in the league, and one of the accomplishments is being on the All-Star team.'' Howard will make his fifth consecutive start, and his status will provide much of the intrigue surrounding the event. He has told the Magic he wants to be traded and they have given his agent permission to talk to select teams, putting the franchise in a diffi- cult position of deciding whether it should deal its superstar before hosting the week- end. ALAMEDA (AP) — The Oakland Raiders hired seven additional coaches for Dennis Allen's staff on Thursday, including three who were with the team last year. The Raiders hired former Houston assistant Frank Pol- lack to replace Bob Wylie as the team's offensive line coach and former fullback Justin Griffith to be offen- sive quality control coach. They also hired Al Miller as strength and conditioning coach, with John Greico serving as his assistant. Oakland also announced that running backs coach Kelly Skipper will be back for a sixth season in Oak- land, assistant offensive line coach Steve Wisniewski returns for a second season and defensive quality con- trol coach Eric Sanders was retained for a third season. The most notable hiring was Pollack, who had spent the past five seasons as the assistant offensive line coach for Houston. The Tex- ans were second in the NFL last season with 153 yards rushing per game. Houston has traditionally used a lot of zone-blocking schemes, while the Raiders utilized more power blocking last season under Wylie. Pollack will be assisted by former Pro Bowler Wis- niewski, who is entering his second year as an NFL assistant. Wisniewski's nephew, Stefen, just finished a successful rookie season as Oakland's starting left guard. Miller has two decades of NFL coaching experience, having spent time in Atlanta with Allen, as well as the New York Giants and Den- ver Broncos. Griffith played seven pro seasons, including two with Oakland. He has extensive experience playing for new Raiders offensive coordina- tor Greg Knapp, who coached Griffith with the Atlanta Falcons and Raiders. Skipper spent two sea- sons as tight ends coach in Oakland before switching to running backs the past three. The Lassen forward fin- ished with 27 points and 13 rebounds. The Lady Spartans caught a break when Lassen's 6-foot center Emily Terwilliger picked up her third foul early in the first quarter. Red Bluff had reeled off 10 straight points in the second quarter to take a 34-24 lead, but Lassen had cut the deficit down to six before Brose's buzzer beating effort. The Lady Spartans came out for the third quarter on fire and outscored Lassen 23-8. Red Bluff got contributions from everyone on the roster with Brose leading the way with 23 points.
