ByRayAspuria EurekaTimes-Standard raspuria@times-standard.com ARCATA Joseph Bosetti took the pass in the wing and swished the wide-open 3-pointer on Saturday night. That certainly wasn't the case for the Red Bluff High's boys bas- ketball teams sharp shooter in a Friday night loss at the 47th an- nual Jerry Paul Arcata Invita- tional Basketball Tournament. In the third-place game, how- ever, Bossetti seemingly couldn't miss. The senior dropped 29 points to spearhead the Spartans' 78-68 victory over the McKinleyville Panthers. Bosetti wasn't the only Spartan to rebound from an abysmal Fri- day night. He got plenty of help from his teammates as Red Bluff's Lane Pritchard consistently at- tacked the rim and finished with 19 points. Fellow Spartans Joey Knight and Wyatt Clement each contributed seven points. McKinlevyille also spread the ball around and got balanced of- fensive production from Will In- gersoll (team-high 19 points) and Bernal Rojas (16). Leroy Tripp, Gavin Rowely and Travis Nickols each contributed 10 points. With both squads showcasing balanced offenses, it was no sur- prise to see Red Bluff holding a narrow 16-14 advantage after one quarter of play. The tense back-and-forth ac- tion resulted in physical play, and it all came to a head for Mack coach Sonny Tripp in the sec- ond quarter. The Panthers head honcho was popped with back- to-back technical fouls and was ejected from the contest after making his case for the dispar- ity in fouls between the Spartans and Panthers. The Spartans almost didn't make it through the winner's bracket after the first game. Red Bluff and Yreka were tied 3-3 after regulation and through a scoreless extra time on Friday. Because it was a tournament game the game went to penalty kicks where Red Bluff goalie Robert Godina outdueld the Yreka keeper to win it for Red Bluff. The Spartans beat Wheat- land 4-0 in the semifinals Sat- urday then beat Anderson 2-1 in the championship. Red Bluff is scheduled to play Anderson again at home on Wednesday. PREP ROUNDUP SpartanswinHolidayClassic By Josh Dubow The Associated Press SACRAMENTO Sacramento Kings general manager Pete D'Alessandro stepped to the mi- crophone and talked about how a franchise that was in disar- ray a little more than 18 months ago when owner Vivek Ranadive bought the team has been sta- bilized with new leadership, a change in culture and the start of a new arena. D'Alessandro then explained why the coach who was a part of that whole process had been fired. The Kings fired Michael Malone just 24 games into his second season with the team over philosophical differences over the team's style of play. "It wasn't about wins and losses," D'Alessandro said Mon- day. "I don't really care what our record was. It's really about who we want to be, what we want our identity to be as a team." D'Alessandro called Malone a "great defensive coach" and said this was the right time to make a change to bring in a coach who can take the team to the next level. He said he wants the Kings to play a more free-wheeling of- fense, which was so successful for NBA Kings fire head coach Mike Malone By Janie Mccauley The Associated Press SANTA CLARA Jim Harbaugh welcomes a sit-down with 49ers CEO Jed York and general man- ager Trent Baalke to discuss the future — his future — after a lost season that will end in two weeks without a playoff berth for the first time in four years. Harbaugh said Monday no meeting is scheduled and wouldn't say whether he should be the one to initiate it, other than noting, "I'm always available to talk to the owner and general manager, of course." There's an uncomfortable vibe around team headquarters given the uncertain future of Harbaugh, who has one season remaining on the $25 million, five-year contract he signed in January 2011. Espe- cially with two remaining home games at Levi's Stadium, where the 49ers (7-7) have hardly estab- lished much of a home-field ad- vantage.
