ByClaireLester More than 80 students from Red Bluff FFA headed to Shasta College Oct. 16 for the first FFA field day of the year. Each student signed up to compete in a specific competition, such as live- stock judging, horse judg- ing or floral. Some stu- dents have competed be- fore, and for others it was their very first time. All of the chapters ar- rived early and the teams headed over to where their competitions were taking place. After the competi- tions, everyone enjoyed a delicious lunch and could participate in fun compe- titions such as roping and log splitting. After the awards cer- emony, Red Bluff FFA headed home with several team banners and ribbons in tow. Red Bluff FFA's Floral Design team placed third, Advanced Horse Judging placed first, Novice Horse Judging placed second, Best Informed Greenhand placed first and Vet Tech placed sixth. Shasta College Field Day was a great way for stu- dents to see what competi- tions are like, practice their skills and see whether the skills are something they wish to continue pursuing. In winter and spring of next year, there are sev- eral field days across Cali- fornia where students from surrounding FFA chapters go to put their skills to the test. Finally, the most dedi- cated teams have a chance to compete at State Finals in San Luis Obispo in May. Hopefully many Red Bluff FFA members discovered a new passion at Shasta College Field Day and con- tinue to build their skills throughout the year.
