Jack the Ribber restaurant played host to the V’s, serv- ing up ribs and cornbread to dinner guests. Daily News Publisher Greg Stevens, and Sports Editor Rich Greene presented framed certificates to all the recip- ients who attended. Greene “ribbed” coaches, teams and players with some opening comments and jokes. In the end, special honors were given to some of the athletes. Erin Eicholtz, Red Bluff cross country and track and field runner and Cameron Nye, Corning’s basketball and football star were named Student-Athletes of the Year. Los Molinos senior Breanna Gratreaks, who played volleyball, basketball and softball for the Bulldogs and Red Bluff’s football-basketball duo athlete Ian Hill were given Sportsman of the Year awards. The male athlete of the year was Mercy’s Mitchell Lopez. As point guard for the basketball team he helped lead the Warriors to back-to-back section titles. As the football team’s quarterback he brought the Warriors to the semifinals in the school’s first year in 8-man football. The female athlete of the year was Emily McEnaney, of Red Bluff softball. She reached four section championships. A “Difference Maker” award was given to Jessica Macdonald of Red Bluff junior varsity basketball for helping create the “Pink Out” event to raise cancer aware- ness. Following the awards presentation, guests were invit- ed to eat cake and mingle before the event ended. Red Bluff Bulls coach Mike Weibling served as the guest speaker.
