Adalia has taken charge of many projects here at Centennial without being asked. She has taken the initiative herself to get things done. Adalia is a leader and role model on our campus. I have watched her in many situations “do the right thing” when no one else was. I have no doubt that whatever ave- nue Adalia decides to take after graduation, she will be successful. Through her determina- tion and continued per- severance, she will suc- ceed. Adalia Servin 12th Grade Alfonso Servin has over- come a lot of obstacles during his time at Centennial. Alfonso has had to work very hard to get where he is today. In the last year, he has really progressed not only as a student but as a person as well. He has come to the realiza- tion that working very hard does pay off, and that it is well worth it in the long run. The staff at Centennial have had the pleasure of watching him evolve into a young man who is now willing to take responsibility Alfonso Brockman 12th Grade Darian Brockman is a senior at Centennial High School. She is an amazing young woman. Aside from being a trusted Honor Roll stu- dent at Centennial, she works at Olive View School with younger stu- dents for part of her school day. She is mature, well-organized and can always be counted on to do the right thing. In addition to school and work, Darian is a teen mother. This makes achieving one’s goals more complicated during the teen years. We are proud of Darian for stepping up to the plate and succeeding in her role of student, par- ent and young adult. You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself any direction you choose. You’re on your own, and you know what you know. And you are the one who’ll decide where you’ll go. Oh the places you’ll go. -- Dr Seuss Sponsored By: Good Job! Your Efforts Show! Check out our Reduced Deposits! Abby’s favorite classes are English and Literature, and her teacher agrees that Abby is an outstanding student, a positive role model, and an all-around asset to the class and school. Outside of school, Abby baby sits for her family and sometimes likes to go kayaking. In the future, she plans to attend Shasta College and move on to Chico State. Her goal is to become a teacher. Abby Torress 8th Grade Alex truly epitomizes the results of hard work, focus, and having a goal. After moving to California from Mexico, Alex, within a very short time, learned English and has become one of Maywood’s top English and math students. He is quiet, but he is very confident and intent on becoming prepared for high school and for college. Alex says the classes he has excelled the most in are math and physical education. Out of school, he is an avid soccer fan and has played for CYSL. He hopes to attend Butte College after high school. Alex Britany Dagen 8th Grade Britany is an excellent student who excels in every academic area. She is actively involved in cheerleading, softball, volleyball and California Junior Scholarship Federation. Outside of school, she enjoys providing services for the elderly. She also finds time for gardening and being outdoors. Britany received recognition as an Elks Student of the Month for March. Her teachers describe her as “outgoing, supportive, and a true joy,” and all recognize her great potential as she moves into high school and beyond. While not sure which exact field she would like to enter, Britany would ultimately like to attend the Oregon University. Erik Rios 8th Grade Erik is consistently a strong student who is a positive role model both academically and socially. His teachers talk about him in terms of “outgoing, responsible, likeable, and hard working.” To his friends, he is someone they can turn to for help with school, to discuss personal issues, or to just be a true friend. Erik is an outstanding student in all of his classes, but his favorites are math, science, and social studies. In the long term, he doesn’t know where he would like to go to college, but hopes that his collegiate years include playing college level basketball. Salvador Mora 8th Grade Salvador has been described as the type of student who quietly and consistently chooses to do the right thing in school and in life. An avid soccer player, Salvador played soccer in Mexico and has played for four years for the Corning CYSA. The staff at Maywood Middle School recognizes the vast growth Salvador has had in learning English and in completing Maywood’s highest math class, accomplishments of which he is proud, as well. Salvador’s future goals include attending Butte College (and, of course, playing soccer!), attending a four year university, and becoming a doctor. Winterson 8th Grade Shawnee’s time at Maywood has been marked by a long list of accomplishments, recognitions and awards. She is a star volleyball and softball player, who also excels in physical education, because she says, “I always try my best no matter what.” In addition to her athletics, Shawnee is an outstanding math student and a continuing member of the California Junior Scholarship Federation, where she works with different community service projects.
