I V www.ci.fayetteville.nc.us Sidewalks continued constructed at the intersection of Bragg Boulevard and Walter Street. The sidewalks provides improved ADA accessibility and pedestrian movement. Projects are being funded by grant money from the North Carolina Department of Transportation and the Federal Highway Administration. The City is also funding projects with additional money. Transit continued routes, but currently riders do not have sidewalks or shoulders for walking or wheelchair use. Additionally, America Recovery and Reinvestment also been awarded to FAST. ARRA funding is allocated by the federal government for use on infrastructure improvements. This funding will be used to construct sidewalk on Walter Reed Road. The Engineering & Infrastructure Department, which oversees sidewalks, has been working from a plan approved by City Council. The plan is based on need and available funding “City staff has aggressively sought funding to make improvements to Transit accessibility,” City Manager Dale Iman said. “Our citizens, especially those with physical disabilities, will now be able to reach bus stops more safely and quickly. I’m certain this will create opportunities for new riders and improve the Transit riding experience for Fayetteville residents.” Idle Policy continued By adopting the policy, the City may save 12 to 17 percent in fuel costs. The policy also applies to employees’ vehicles being used for work purposes. An additional rule bans City vehicles from drive-throughs, such as at banks or restaurants. Hospital Area Planning Documents Available Online The City of Fayetteville has made available hospital area planning documents on its website. Documents titled “Preliminary Planning Response” and “Planning Principles” are accessible. A hospital area plan is being prepared by consultant Glenn Harbeck. The plan will provide direction for the future of the area. Workstations feature a new call taking software, called ProQA, which has three disciplines - emergency police medical dispatch. In February, the City Police and Fire departments went live with a new CAD (Computer Aided Dispatch) system, called OSSI. One feature of this system includes the ability for the dispatchers to communicate with Police and Fire units through computers. Personnel in computer screens as they are called in.
