Godwin Park Receives Grant T he Town of Godwin and the Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation Department have received a $150,000 North Carolina Parks and Recreation Trust Fund (PARTF) grant to develop Godwin Park. Mayor Deborah Godwin said the town recently purchased approximately 34 acres, of which 12.2 acres in the town limits will be devoted to the neighborhood park. The Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation Department will develop 6.37 acres   5.83 acres will be developed at a later date as Phase II. The total cost of the project is $300,000. The Town of Godwin, Cumberland County and Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation will provide the matching funds and resources. “The development of the Godwin Park was contingent upon the PARTF grant and now we can move forward with this project,” said Mayor Godwin. GODWIN “This is a dream come true. Having lived in Godwin my entire life, I’ve heard more than once that Godwin needed a park – a place that encourages outdoor activities with family and friends. Now our citizens in Godwin and northern Cumberland County will enjoy good physical activity without having to travel away from home. I look forward to seeing more folks out and about – both young and old,” she said. 4th Friday Bikes, a celebration of biking and walking in our community. FAMPO will present the draft Bicycle/Pedestrian Connectivity Plan during the 4th Friday event in the PWC Building lobby at 201 Hay St. from 6 to 9 p.m. Other activities include a children’s art project, informational kiosks on local   program. All ages will help complete a wall-size mural about walking and biking from their point of view. Other participants joining in the event include the City of Fayetteville Celebrate Walking, Biking T Transportation Department highlighting the Fayetteville Sidewalk Program and Cape Fear River Trail; the Cumberland County Public Health Department with information on bicycle safety; and the Fayetteville-Cumberland Parks and Recreation Department spotlighting the Greenway Program. The Cross Creek Cycling Club will also be on hand with demonstrations and information on ride routes. For more information, call Cindy Szwarckop at 919-866-4823. he Fayetteville Area Metropolitan Planning Organization invites the public to join them downtown Friday evening, Aug. 28, for Fayetteville Walks & Backpacks Donated to Homeless Students Staff from the Cumberland County Register of Deeds office donated more than 200 backpacks stuffed with school supplies to the Fayetteville Police Department for distribution to homeless students in Cumberland County Schools. Employers Invited to Job Fair T he Cumberland County Department of Social Services Work First Program and the Workforce Development Center, along with other community partners, are seeking employers to participate in an upcoming job fair on Oct. 6 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Crown Expo Center. The Work First Program, in partnership with Fayetteville Technical Community College, City of Fayetteville Community Development, Beasley Broadcast Group, Fayetteville-Cumberland County Chamber of Commerce, and the Workforce Development Center, are proud to be presenting the 12th Annual “Fall Into Work” Job Fair, which is free and open to the public.  as well as advertise their businesses. Last year’s job fair at the Crown featured 98 employers and drew more than 4,500 job seekers. The booth space is free and is equipped with wireless Internet access.
