Quartzsite Rotary Doings Contributed by: Violet Kiss Theres been a lot of activity lately with Quartzsite Rotary. As autumn swept in and vendors and snowbirds ock in, we wanted to welcome all near and from afar. Quirky Quartzsites arms are open! And, Rotary is in full swing with many helping hand activities to promote good will and with a fresh start for Rotary Internationals 2013 motto: Peace Through Service as well as our own Service Above Self. On scholarships, we gave to three (3) deserving seniors who began college in September: Brianna Cowell, Berenice Deln, and Joseph Hager. In November, we heard our Quartzsite Elementary here in town needed some help with their School Garden Project. So the club ran (okay, drove) to get them the compost and 200 feet of soaker hoses they needed. We dont need to tell them they are learning botany, math and other sciences, do we? This is a great project for our students to learn about gardening, productivity, and getting the benets in the end being provided by its bountiful harvest come spring. Winter Holiday Season always means the Fire Departments Angel Tree to us. There are so many deserving children whom (without the Angel Tree) would not have a real Christmas with toys and other fun things. So, we little elves went snooping and found Santas list for 40 wonderful kids in our town and went shopping to make sure these kids have a memorable and fun-lled Christmas. Toys, batteries, wrapping paper, tape, ribbons; oh my, weve been busy little elves this year! Now were ready for the Christmas rafe of a 36 inch at screen television to benet our Scholarship Fund for spring, 2013. Tickets will be showing up all around town this week at $5 per ticket or 5 tickets for $20. The winner will be announced December 21st. Our Rotary is growing and very involved with our town. Whether you are a visiting Rotarian (making up meetings or wanting to volunteer), or just would like to know more about Rotary, please come to one of our meetings. Our next meeting is this Friday, December 7th, 1:00 PM at Silly Als. Please come by, we would love to have you visit! t Grea as ristm Ch ts!
