December 5, 2012 Salome High updates Thanksgiving Month! The month of November is important, because of Thanksgiving! Thanksgiving Day is traditionally a day for families and friends to get together for a special meal. The meal often includes turkey, stufng, potatoes, cranberry sauce, gravy, pumpkin pie, and vegetables. Thanksgiving Day is a time for many people to give thanks for what they have. There are claims that the rst Thanksgiving Day was held in the city of El Paso, Texas in 1598. Another early event was held in 1619 in the Virginia Colony. Many people trace the origins of the modern Thanksgiving Day to the harvest celebration that the Pilgrims held in Plymouth, Massachusetts in 1621. However, their rst true Thanksgiving was in 1623, when they gave thanks for rain that ended a drought. There early Thanksgivings took the form of a special church service, rather than a feast. Our sources were History.com which is used quite often. www.DesertMessenger.com On November 16th /17th, Salomes Lettermans Club hosted a Lettermans Basketball Tournament for the middle schools. Bagdad, Aguila, Salome, and Wenden attended. All these teams, girls and boys, played very well. Wenden boys beat Bagdad, and the girls beat Aguila. Wenden boys and girls took home rst place for the second year in a row. Congratulations! In other news the girls and boys basketball season has started, and its going very well. Both the boys and girls played their hardest at the scrimmage against Antelope, AZ. The teams had their rst home basketball game against Yuma Catholic on November 28th. The nal scores were the JV girls 21-11, the JV boys 59-38, the Varsity girls 62-43 and the Varsity boys 34-67. Go Frogs!
