December 5, 2012 Page 7 Recount for constable | S BC Silent Auction huge success! By Joanne Winer Operation Hero Comfort held its annual Silent Auction to support the troops on Dec. 1, and it was a huge success again this year. This event is the only fundraiser for Operation Hero Comfort, a Quartzsite based non-prot organization that was started in 2006 to support the troops in harms way by providing packages each month with items needed by them. The auction this year had over 220 items to be bid on thanks to the generosity of the individuals, businesses and vendors in town. The event raised enough money to be able to send out packages for quite a while as a result of this auction. Operation Hero Comfort currently has 7 adopted units they are sending out 4 packages out to each month, with extras at holiday time. The cards that people signed at the auction went out in this weeks packages so the troops will get them before Christmas. Anita Carlson, in charge of Operation Hero Comfort, wishes to thank all the people who donated items for the event, and also to thank everyone who came and bid on the items--a special thanks to Thrivent for Lutherans for their volunteers who helped set up and clean up, and who also donated $300 for the event. Also a special thanks to the VFW riders who showed up to support this event and also did a lot of bidding for the auction items. It was great to see so many people support the brave men and women who serve this country!! CUSTOM MADE PET ACCESSORIES The Pet Patio ~ Ray & Verna Maurer EASY TO FIND!
