"I first met Dr. Phil about eight years ago when he came to shop at Raley's where I worked," said Rebecca Whatley, who helped or- ganize the party. "He's real per- sonable and reminded me of my grandpa and I told him that. We became friends over the years and one Thanksgiving I invited him for the holiday and we just adopted him. He's really special and a sweet guy. A veteran and I admire that. He's so spry and quicker than I am. He's really sharp." Born and raised in the Bay City, Michigan area, Clinton was drafted into the military, serving from 1942-1946 in the medical corps. After the war, he went to school at George Washington Uni- versity to become a doctor.
