FISHING REPORT FISHING REPOR Kosa The retirees fished Lake Wylie last week and John Black teamed up with Fred Wright to take the win with 9.14. They also had the big bass of the day with a 2.14 largemouth. Ronnie Humphries fished solo and was second with 6.03. Mack Wyatt and Johnny Christainberry had 4.09 and were third. This week, the old-timers head to lake Norman and John Black will once again be in search of everyone's contribution to his truck payment. Bass Casters The Bass Casters club fished Lake Wateree for their December tournament last week- end. Mitch McCracken stumbled up on 12.9 and won over Randy Scarborough who had 7.6. Tom Gavin was third with 6.2 followed by Terry Knight with 5.1. Brandon Scarborough rounded out the top five with 3.7. Randy Scarborough had the big bass of the day with a 5.12 largemouth. The Bass Casters will fish Lake Wylie for their January event. True Stories requested Ok, winter is here and tournament reports are pretty hard to come by. Lets have some fun with stories from you, the readers about true and funny things that have happened while fishing. It doesn't have to be tournament fishing, doesn't even have to be bass fish- ing, it can be crappie, catfish, carp, pond, lakes or rivers. If you have a funny story on a friend or even yourself, send it to me. You can leave out the real names if you want, that is up to you. This could be fun for you and me.. Send them and be sure to title it STORY FOR SHOPPER or I will not open it. Come See Us For The Best Brands This Christmas! If anyone has any sugges- tions on stories or pictures of their catch or kill, you can e-mail me at plail5@carolina. rr.com. TITLE THE E-MAIL STORY OR PICTURE "FOR SHOPPER" OR I WILL ASSUME IT'S JUNK MAIL AND NOT OPEN IT. By Gary Miller By One of my favorite places to hunt from is the barn, especially on the cold and windy days. I have it set up perfectly. I have two square bales stacked on top of one an- other to rest my gun on, and I sit on a third bale. Because this set-up is in the loft of the barn, I have a great view of the fi elds below. There have been a few mornings that I have climbed up top only to be greeted by other occupants of the critter variety. I have never actually seen one but I have heard them quickly scamper toward the nearest exit. Most of the time, I am able to carry with me a cup of cof- fee and the morning newspaper which I read by fl ashlight. I read until there's just enough sunlight to allow me to see with my binoculars across the fi elds. As you can tell, it makes for a comfortable hunt. And it's not just an easy place to go, but I have actually taken several deer from this gigantic tree stand. It's undoubtedly a luxury to hunt from such a place, but I can't imagine a moth- er giving birth to a newborn baby in that same environment. And yet that is what I'm reminded of right now. I think of Mary and Joseph being relegated to the barn. PROCESSING ETTERS DEER THE END If your deer season is winding down and you still haven't taken that big buck, don't give up. Here are some things you can try to take that buck of a lifetime at the end of the season. • Don't hunt where anybody else has hunted. • Don't hunt at times when everyone else has or is hunting. • Use strategies no one else has tried. • Move your stand to places neither you or anyone else has ever hunted. Lafayette Street (Hwy. 18 South) Shelby, NC Hours: Monday - Friday 8am until 5:30pm Saturday 8am - 3pm www.norrismerchandise.com 704-482-8464 • Now is also the time to get right into that bedding area you've been avoiding all season. It still won't be easy but trying these tactics could result in the buck you've always dreamed about. Gary Miller Aiming Outdoorsmen Aiming Outdoorsmen Toward Christ oward Christ I can imagine that Joseph may have felt guilty that he was not able to provide something better for his wife and soon- to-be mother. He must have gathered and stacked the hay in order to make the surroundings as comfortable as possible. He must have made sure the room was out of the wind and that it was as clean as could be expected. But, no matter how much he tried, it was still a barn. Would God let His child be born in a barn? Not only would He, but He did. I wonder if that barn was still standing to- day, what it would be worth. There's no doubt that some religious organization would give millions; not because of the worth of the barn itself, but because of the value of what happened inside. You see, what makes our life of value is not what's on the outside, but it's Who's on the inside. And when God's Son lives within us, we become of great value to God, ourselves, and the world.
