NOV. 26 - DEC. 2, 2014 UCW 11 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM Hear ye! Hear ye! You are cordially invited to Methodist University's 4th Annual Yuletide Feaste! The Yuletide Feaste is a mock Old English festival celebrated by Methodist University each year. The feaste is scheduled for Dec. 5 and 6 beginning at 7 p.m. at United Methodist Church on Hay Street. The university started this tradition in 2011 after Dr. Michael Martin, a Kent State alumnus, brought the liveliness of the festival to Methodist. The feaste brings students and the community together to share in the spirit of Christmas cheer. The department of music is the host of the event and many of their gifted students will perform during the four-course meal. Songs like "We Wish You a Merry Christmas" and "Silent Night" are performed while guests experience a real feast as the performers follow their script. To make this event more reminiscent of the renaissance faire atmosphere, performers will dress the part. The guests are served and seated as though Queen Elizabeth's court has graced their presence. This allows guests to become involved in the enactment because they are a part of the festivities, which adds to the fun of the evening. Brian Harris, president of Friends of Music at Methodist University, said, "The feaste is open to the general public, and we would like very much to fill the hall both Friday and Saturday nights. The menu includes: • First Course: Wassail, bread, butter • Second Course: Mushroom soup with assorted cheeses and fresh fruit • Third Course: Boneless chicken breast stuffed with gouda cheese, spinach and sun-dried tomatoes; side dishes will include rice pilaf, roasted root vegetables and French-style green beans (Vegetarian plate available) • Fourth course: Flaming figgy pudding Performers include The Methodist University Chorale, chamber singers, trumpet fanfares by Jamario Covington, Musik Grouppe from the University of North Carolina-Pembroke, magic and juggling by Just Joey. Covington, a Methodist University student, will perform at the feaste. "I think a person that has never been to the feaste expects to be served food that will bring them back to the event the next year," said Covington, who will perform several Baroque Trumpet fanfares to go along with the renaissance theme. This is his second year performing at the feaste. "My favorite part is when the pudding comes out while the choir sings 'We Wish You a Merry Christmas' and when the lights go out. The blue flame in the pudding looks awesome," he continued. "We can seat about 110 people each night. All proceeds will go to the Methodist University Music Department. On behalf of Friends of Music and the Methodist Music Department. I would like to thank our friends at the United Methodist Church for the use of their beautiful fellowship hall," said Harris. Tickets for the event are $35. Anyone wishing to attend should contact Linda Volman at 630-7100 or Rhonda Harris at 630-7023.
