22 OCTOBER 1-7, 2014 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM Darius Rucker Salutes the Military on Oct. 11 by MICHAEL SMITH On Oct. 11 at 7 p.m., the United States Army's Family and Morale, Welfare and Recreation Command and the Air Force Reserve Command will host country music superstar Darius Rucker for a free concert to salute the men in women in uniform. MWR provides programs and services supporting soldiers, families and civilians of America's Army. The MWR website states the vision of the organization is to be, "a team of professionals providing soldiers and families quality programs and services that promote resiliency and strengthen our Army." This concert marks the second time in six months that Rucker will play to a local crowd. He was last here back in April at the Crown Complex along with the Eli Young Band and Corey Smith during the True Believers Tour. Rucker began that tour in January and just finished it at the end of August. Rucker is making the stop at Fort Bragg in the middle of a new tour that began in Canada in early September. On Oct. 4, he plays Koka Booth Amphitheater in Cary before moving west to Arizona on the 15th. This will be the last, scheduled, chance to see him live in this area in 2014. The concert will feature music from his current album True Believers, like his 2013 hit "Wagon Wheel," which won him a Grammy Award for Best Country Solo Performance. The show will also feature cuts from his previous albums, as well as songs from his as yet untitled fourth country album that is due out in October. The new album will feature his newest hit single, "Homegrown Honey," which was written with Nathan Chapman and Lady Antebellum's Charles Kelley. Rucker is currently recording the remainder of the tracks for the album in Nashville with producer Frank Rogers. Also scheduled to perform with Rucker is southern rock band A Thousand Horses; who will open the show. The band A Thousand Horses describe themselves as, "a blues and booze infused cocktail of southern rock and country with lyrics that pay homage to the traditional values of the fly-over states." The concert is open to the public with no tickets required for the show. The stage for the show will be set up on the Main Post Parade Field off of Reilly Road. In addition to the stage show there will be a VIP Hospitality Tent where you can win a chance to meet Rucker. Tickets for the hospitality tent are $15 and available at Leisure Travel Service located in the Mini Mall. MWR and the base have asked that there be no pets, glass bottles or cans brought out to the parade grounds.
