Contributed by: Violet Kiss July 4th is just around the corner and I am real- ly getting excited. I can almost smell the food and see kids, teens and adults running around having one great old-fashioned July 4th Celebration with food, games and glowing fi reworks. Bring the family, bring your friends, oh heck, bring your- self! It's all starting at 6 PM at Town Park by the football fi eld and the snack shack. Let me tease you with a few things that will be happening. We will have the water slide for the little kiddies and the "kids at heart" (I'm one). The Town is putting up a 40' by 40' canopy with cooling misters, chairs, tables and they're also bringing in some interesting games. One really popular game is the Corn Hole Bean Bag Toss Game. There will be at least 8 boards (painted by Mark Goldberg and friends) set up for play and for all ages. We're going to bring back some old- fashioned summertime games such as "Tug-O-War" using an old fi re hose, 3-legged races, Frozen T-shirt contests, and… a side-by- side dunk tank with Mayor Ed Foster in one, and our new Town Manager Skylor Miller in the other! I'd say we're all going to get a lot of fun pictures. We'll have sign up tables for that and the games while Quartzsite Police Dept. will be bringing their transport trailer and letting ev- eryone see and climb into their Police ATV and HUMMER. The Fire Department is bringing out the fi re hose and house. CareFlight will also be dropping in for a visit. Of course there will be other games for all, including the Rock Stacking Game with Gene and Maggie Ross for Proud Neighbors of Quartzsite and other games by other organizations and churches. I'm sure you want to hear about the food, right? We will have m any organizations (Operation Hero Comfort, Food Bank, Rotary, VFW, and volunteers from many others) involved with the food also. I hear there will be tasty dinners, some type of chip/chili/cheese boats, possibly root beer fl oats, soda, wa- ter, and more in the Snack Shack for reasonable prices. There will be little 'freebies' handed out by some other groups near the canopy. If we can round up some, we'll try to get some face painting done, too. Hey, bring your own picnic baskets if you'd like. After 20 years, we still have Richard Oldham bringing in the ripest and sweetest water- melon he can fi nd for everyone. I heard from a little birdie that there are going to be free snow cones along with the watermelon. So, yup, come on down to the Town Park on July 4th! The festivities start at 6 PM, food, games and the Fire Department's spectacular fi reworks! Y'all hear? Let's make this one big community blast (no pun intended), and everyone come out and PLAY! | S BC | J 4, 2013 DUMP THE DRUGS In Quartzsite!
