Cloud Outstand- ing Practice Award for immunizations at the annual Arizona Partnership for Immunizations (TAPI) awards cer- emony in Phoenix on April 27th. Since its inception in 2000, The Ari- zona Partnership for Immunizations (TAPI) has recognized exceptional efforts of individuals, community groups, and organizations that have made a difference in immunization coverage levels within the last year (2010). This can be done through the development of new ideas and/or poli- cies that lead to increased rates, or by meeting certain targeted goals. The Daniel T. Cloud Award is for any organization or practice that has reached a 90% or higher coverage level for children that are fully immunized before the age two. Assessments are conducted twice yearly (March and September) to determine the current immunization status in each county. The March assessment reached the 90% goal. La Paz County is the only county health department in Arizona to date that has received this award. “We are proud of our nurses and staff,” said Diana Grazier, La Paz County Di- rector of Nursing, “but we couldn’t do it without the tremendous support we get from the schools or the diligent ef- fort on the part of the parents/guard- ians of these children.” Children’s immunizations are free. The current schedule is: • Parker: LPCHD, 1112 Joshua Ave, every Tuesday from 8 -11:30 AM and 1:00 – 4:00 PM. • Ehrenberg: Ehrenberg Fire Dept, 1st Wednesday of the month, 9:30 – 11:30 AM. • Quartzsite: Quartzsite Fire Dept. 1st Wednesday day of the month, 1:00 – 3:00 PM. • Salome: Tri-Valley Medical 1st Thursday of the month, 9:30 – 11:30 AM. Operation Hero Comfort to hold Flag Retirement Ceremony June 11 By Joanne Winer If you have an American or State flag that is tattered or torn, please think about “retiring” it properly by being part of the Flag Retirement Ceremony sponsored by Operation Hero Comfort in Quartzsite. Proto- col dictates that any flag that is torn, or worn out should be burned in a special ceremony, the grommets removed, and the ashes buried with respect. Operation Hero Comfort will hold its 3rd annual Flag Retirement Ceremony on Saturday, June 11 starting at 8 p.m. at the Pavilion in the Town Park on Plymouth Road in Quartzsite. Anyone with a flag that needs retiring can bring it to the Town Hall or the Business Chamber and it will be retired in the ceremony along with all the others they have collected. Or you can bring it to the ceremony and be part of it. The local Cub Scout troop will perform the ceremony. After the flags are burned in the barrels and the ashes cool off, the grommets from the flags are collected and are sent by Operation Hero Comfort to the adopted troop units they currently have in Afghanistan and Iraq. The grommets are felt to bring good luck to those who carry them, and Operation Hero Comfort has sent hundreds of them in the past three years to their different adopted units. Please come out and take part in this very special ceremony to honor the flag and those who serve our country under it. Refreshments will be served after the ceremony. For more information, please call Anita Carlson at 928-927-4292.
