This project is presented by The Fayetteville Observer along with a cultural arts tourism grant from the Arts Council of Fayetteville/Cumberland County. Only a couple weeks away from Mother's Day weekend on May 11. Make your plans soon for the most important woman in your life, or your children's lives so she feels special. Here are a few ideas (and by no means is this a complete list!): • Make reservations at her favorite lunch or dinner spot at Circa 1800 at 108 Person Street, Pierro's at 217 Hay Street, Blue Moon Café at 310 Hay Street or maybe even brunch at Marquis Market at 116 Person Street. • Seek out all things sparkly at Walter Guy Jewelry, Kindred Hearts, Twisted Jeweler, Moonstone Jewelry or an antique piece at Diane's Vintage Market, The Livery, Shops at 123 Hay Street, Lodestone Art & Antiques or the Cotton Exchange. • Pick out the perfect gift including accessories, totes, serving dishes and fun kitchen gadgets, stationary cards, handbags and more. Moms will be easy to shop for in our cute shops like So Chic Bebe, Dora's Glamour and Antique Shop, House of Hollywood, Upscale Consignments or Turner Lane. • For those moms with hobbies or who like to collect, maybe try to find her some new yarn (or a new loom) at All Things by Hand, a night out at Wine and Design or Greg's Art, Pottery and Gifts or the perfect new piece of pottery for her collection at Peacock's Eye Polish Pottery and Gifts. • Take the opportunity to go have photos made in Cross Creek Park, Linear Park or along the streets in the historic district. Find a photographer and get those important yearly photos made while things are in bloom. • Oh, and this may go without saying, but what about a gift certificate for a hair salon like Fusion, Joely's, Beautiful Transitions, Emphoria, Showin' Love and more along with a promise to watch the children while she goes to get pampered along with an extra hour or two to meet friends at The Wine Café or one of our coffee shops. Another fun idea is the Downtown Alliance Mother's Day Carriage Rides. On Saturday, May 10 during Mother's Day weekend, a horse- drawn carriage will be more than happy to take moms and their children on a 20 minute ride over the brick-paved streets of the Historic district. Rides start at 1 p.m. and continue every 20 minutes until 8 p.m. departing from the Downtown Alliance office at 222 Hay Street. Tickets are $15 per adult and $10 for children under 12 when accompanied by an adult or reserve a private coach for 2 for $60. To purchase your tickets before May 12, go by City Center Gallery & Books at 112 Hay Street or call 910-678-8899 to charge it by phone. The rain date is Sunday, May 11. If the rides are postponed to Sunday, there will be an announcement on the bookstore answering machine by 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 10. You may purchase your tickets at 222 Hay Street on the day of the event; however, you may not want to wait. These sold out for Valentine's Day so you may want to act fast! Advance purchase is strongly recommended.
