The Boys & Girls Club of Cumberland County was established in 1968 and has touched thousands of lives. The piano is an incredibly versatile instrument. It has been used in nearly every genre of music, and people continue to use it to make innovative and beautiful music. Every two years, Snyder Memorial Baptist Church provides the community with an opportunity to enjoy local musicians and the many different styles of the piano with The Festival of Keyboards. Admission is free as the entire purpose of the event is to bring beautiful music into the community. "I really enjoy working with the other pianists, but I also enjoy that we are giving a gift to the community and something they don't always get to see," said Joy Cogswell, the director of Snyder Music Academy. Additionally, the piano is a often solitary instrument. This gathering of skilled pianists is a great change of pace from the normal solitary performance. For the event there will be musical selections from multiple genres. Cogswell explains the performance by saying, "We use Snyder Church members and staff for the performance. We have used academy faculty. We also do a lot of different styles of music. There will be classical, sacred, pop, jazz, show tunes and patriotic. Its really a variety and there is something for everyone. Also, it is a tradition for our closing piece to play "The Star Spangled Banner" with everyone playing. That is eight people on four pianos." The very first Festival of Keyboards was difficult and overwhelming to organize, but now it is just incredible to witness. The opportunity to nine local musicians in a single night is incredible, and can be very inspiring for budding musicians. These nine pianists will be performing on four beautiful grand pianos. The Festival of Keyboards is held on April 27, at 6:30 p.m., and will last until 8:30 p.m. Admission is free for the public and it is being held in Snyder Memorial Baptist Church which is located at 701 Westmont Dr. For more information call 484-3191 or visit http://www.faydogwoodfestival.com/ events_detail.aspx?id=58. Festival of Key Boards Few things can be as terrifying and exhilarating to watch as a stunt show. This year The Fayetteville Dogwood Festival will feature a BMX performance by the professional stunt men of Solution Action Sports (SAS). On April 26, a portion of Hay St. will shut down and ramps will be erected for The Free Style Madness - BMX Stunt Show. Members of SAS have performed all over the country with several different stunt-shows, all to rave reviews. They are a popular event for all kinds of festivals and gatherings. This year, the people of Fayetteville have the opportunity to experience one of their BMX shows as part of The Dogwood Festival. A BMX show focuses specifically around stunts performed on a bike. This style of extreme sport was first popularized in the 1970s. The popularity of the sport as well as the daring of the stunts has risen exponentially since then. This is not something to try at home, but it makes for incredible and jaw-dropping entertainment. In this show, professionals demonstrate their skills on a BMX bike both on the street and on ramps. This is great family entertainment. Children and adults alike can marvel at the incredible skill and daring of the performers. The Free Style Madness – BMX Stunt Show will be held on April 26th at 1 p.m., 3 p.m., and 5 p.m. this event is sponsored by the The Dogwood Festival. To see the show go to the 400 block of Hay St. which is from Huske Hardware to City Hall.
