By Joanne Winer A ribbon cutting and grand opening was held on Saturday, April 9th to welcome the new Quartzsite Community Thrift Store. The Thrift Store is located behind Silly Al’s at the end of Showplace Lane in Quartzsite, where the Salvation Army has been for the past 10 years. The Salvation Army has moved to their new location on Moon Mountain Road, and is building a new facility that should be open this fall. The new thrift store is being run by volun- teers, and all of the monies raised will stay in Quartzsite and used for Quartzsite only. They are hoping to help other organizations, churches and schools with needed items that they cannot get funding for any other way. These include the Fire Dept., Police Dept., and Search and Rescue. Everyone wel- comed the new store and said they hoped for a very successful venture that would help Quartzsite. Organizers would like to thank every volunteer for all their hard work in getting the store ready to open. It took a lot of hands and hearts to make it look like it does, with new carpeting, painting and landscaping, and the volunteers have been very busy with all the donations that have been coming in since people have heard it was opening.
