Specialists Joshua R. Campbell, 22, of Bennett, Colo. and Shawn A. Muhr, 26, of Coon Rapids, Iowa, died Jan. 29, 2011, in Helmand province, Af- ghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked their unit with an improvised explosive device. the Army Service Ribbon. Campbell was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal and the Combat Ac- tion Badge posthumously. Muhr entered the Army in January 2005 and was assigned to the 82nd Sustainment Brigade in July 2006. He served as a heavy wheel vehicle driver and deployed in October 2010. Muhr’s past duty assign- ments include the 46th Transportation Company, Camp Stanley, Korea and the 126th Medium Truck Company, 330th Movement Control Battalion, 82nd Sustainment Bde. He had deployed to Kuwait from July 2007 to October 2008. Muhr’s awards and decorations include the Army Achievement Medal, the Army Good Conduct Med- al, the National Defense Service Medal, the Korean Defense Service Medal, the Afghanistan Campaign Medal-Campaign Star, the Global War on Terror- ism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon and the Overseas Service Ribbon. Muhr was awarded the Purple Heart, Bronze Star Medal and the Combat Ac- tion Badge posthumously. Memorial services for both Soldiers were held on February 4, 2011 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Campbell was Quartzsite Police Chief Jeff Gilbert’s nephew. Muhr was Campbell’s best friend. Both Soldiers were assigned to the 546th Trans- portation Company, 82nd Brigade Troops Battal- ion, 82nd Sustainment Brigade. “We are all saddened by the tragic loss of two great American Soldiers who volunteered to serve our na- tion in a dangerous place at a time of historic im- portance,” said Col. John O’Neil, commander, 82nd Sustainment Bde. “Our thoughts, prayers and sup- port are with the Muhr and Campbell Families at this most diffi cult time.” Campbell entered the Army in February 2008 and was assigned to the 82nd Sustainment Bde. in Decem- ber 2008. He served as a heavy wheel vehicle driver and deployed in October 2010. This was his fi rst de- ployment.
