S�������� 15, 2010 Quartzsite Police unveils Quartzsite Police recently unveiled their new undercover 2010 Chevy Ta- hoe, which will help officers target ag- gressive and drunk drivers, speeders and other traffic offenders. new undercover vehicle microphone in the front of the vehicle records all officer interactions with people they stop. The Police Department purchased the police package SUV with a $39,100 grant from the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety, which fully funded both the vehicle and the emergency equipment. The Tahoe has been on the road for the past six weeks, with Officer James Schultz driving the vehicle. Officer Schultz also coordinates our GOHS Program along with scheduling special traffic enforcement details. Equipped with the latest equipment technology, the vehicle is used on all roads within the Quartzsite town lim- its, including AZ Highway 95 and In- terstate 10. The vehicle features the latest in multi- directional radar which enables the officer to determine the speed of vehi- cles driving in the same and opposite directions. This allows an officer to be stationary and monitor traffic in both directions. A digital video camera and The unmarked Tahoe has concealed lights throughout it, as well as the oth- er standard emergency equipment. In a marked vehicle, drivers are aware of the police presence and often change their driving pattern to avoid being stopped. But with the unmarked ve- hicle, drivers are not aware it’s a police unit, and most people will continue driving as they normally do and offi- cers are able to catch the more aggres- sive drivers and speeders. The most recent special traffic en- forcement detail took place over the Labor Day Holiday weekend with no major incidents or accidents that were reported. However officers did make a total of 79 traffic stops and issued a total of 55 traffic citations. While 5 passengers were cited and released for having opened containers in vehicles, there was no driving under the influ- ence arrests. Www.desertgoldactivities.com is P��� 5 Fire restrictions lifted Fire Restrictions Lifted for BLM Yuma and Lake Havasu On Tuesday, September 7, 2010, at 6 a.m., fire restrictions will be lifted for Bureau of Land Management (BLM) lands administered by the Lake Havasu and Yuma Field Offices. This includes public lands in the Yuma, La Paz, and Mohave counties in Arizona and Im- perial, San Bernardino, and Riverside counties in California. Sufficient moisture has been received throughout these areas, and fire re- strictions are no longer necessary. “The BLM greatly appreciates the public’s cooperation in helping to min- imize the number of human-caused wildfires this summer on BLM lands,” said Angie Lara, BLM Colorado River District Manager. “Even though re- strictions are no longer needed, we’re asking the public to be very careful when using fire.” Fire restriction hot- line toll free at 1-877-864-6985. www.azfireinfo.com.
