Staff Report F or more than two decades, The Venice Chorale has brought diverse listeners and multi- generational performers together to share and appreciate music compositions of all genres that tell great stories of culture and history. The 2023-24 concert season kicks off Dec. 10 under the leadership of new artistic director and conductor, Brent Douglas, with "Voices of Winter: A Global Holiday Celebration." The sounds of the season will be followed on Feb. 25 with "Deep Blue: A Musical Voyage Across the Seas", and the season finale on April 28 touts "Bach to the Beatles: A Journey Through Time & Melody". All concerts begin at 7 p.m. at the Venice Performing Arts Center. With a new artistic team comes a new level of experience and excitement. Douglas is an accomplished conductor with an extensive background in symphonic, operatic and choral genres. His career has taken him across the United States and overseas. Alyssa Adamson will be starting her first full season with The Venice Chorale. As youth chorus director, she brings years of experience teaching and working with young performers. She is currently an elementary music teacher at Pine View School for the Gifted. The new principal choral accompanist, Natalia Van Genderen, boasts an impressive international professional career as a concert master, accompanist, piano instructor and performer. Engaging the community is a priority for Douglas. You will see and hear members of The Venice Chorale at more venues outside the concert hall – strolling and singing through art fairs, performing the National Anthem at public events, visiting seniors to share the gift of music. His vision for the Chorale is to become known as the "Voice of Venice" and he believes his choir members are up to the task. Education has been a fundamental value since the Chorale's founding in 2002. The youth programs introduce local students to the art of singing in a chorale ensemble, provide opportunities to further their music education, and promote confidence and social connection that impacts all areas of their lives. Both the Youth Chorus (fourth through eighth graders) and high school Apprentices perform with the Concert Choir at the three major concerts as well as other community events throughout the year. Several students have gone on to careers in music, many still enjoy singing in community ensembles, and all have reported lifelong benefits from their involvement with The Venice Chorale. "Experience the excitement, embark on this new journey," promoters of The Venice Chorale say. Concert tickets can be purchased online from the website, thevenicechorale.org, or from the box office at the Venice Performing Arts Center, 1 Indian Avenue- Building 5 on the Venice High School Campus.
