The lights, the music, the decorations and the food are just a few things that make this holiday special. This is a time that families come together, and we are reunited once again with those we love. It is no wonder why people look forward to this holiday more than any other. In order to fully appreciate Christmas, we must keep in mind the real reason for our celebration. According to historical and biblical records, over two thousand years ago in a small village called Bethlehem there was a young Jewish virgin, named Mary, who gave birth to a baby and they called His name Jesus. This was not an ordinary birth. Jesus was conceived by the Spirit of God. He was the only begotten Son of God. He was named Jesus, because He would become the Savior of the World. They would also call Him, Emmanuel which means, "God with Us." After being led by a host of angels, Shepherds found Mary, Joseph and the swaddled newborn lying in a manger. Wise men came far from the east and worshiped Him. They presented him gold, myrrh and frankincense which were proper gifts for royalty. We must be careful not to get caught up in all the festivities of the holiday and forget to seek the Messiah. During our celebration, it would be good to set aside time to devote ourselves to the King of Kings and Lord of Lords. He alone is worthy of our worship. "O Come Let Us Adore Him, Christ the Lord."
