She was the daughter of the late Jay Conner and the late Myrtle Lane Conner. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by two brothers Charles Conner and Robert Conner. Marjorie was a member of Second Baptist Church and a native of Rutherford County. She is survived by her husband: Norris V. Dobbins. Two Daughters: Denise Crook, Debbie Watts. Two Sons: Keith Dobbins, Gregory Dobbins. Two Sisters: Shirley Whisnant, Carolyn Lancaster. Thirteen grandchildren and twenty one great-grandchildren. The funeral service was held at McMahan's Funeral Home Chapel. Interment was held at Rutherfordton City Cemetery. McMahan's Funeral Home is serving the family. ALBERT LEE PARKER Albert Lee Parker, age 73, of Shelby, passed away December 11, 2019. Albert was born October 1, 1946 in Cleveland County to the late Bynum Jethro Parker and Glady Colleen Moore Parker. He worked for the North Carolina Highway Department of many years and most recently for Bennett Trucking. He enjoyed work- ing in the yard and going to auctions. Albert loved taking trips to the mountains with his family. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one son, Daryl Wayne Moore. Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife, Darlene Parker; son, Joseph Sullivan of Fredericksburg, Virginia; two brothers, Ralph Parker of Caroleen and James Maynard Parker of Mooresboro. He is also sur- vived by two grandchildren. A memorial service was conducted at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel. MARGARET JANE FERGUSON Margaret Jane Ferguson, age 72, of Forest City, passed away December 10, 2019. She was the daughter of the late Roby Brackett and Beatrice Beck Brackett. She was also preceded in death by her brother, Horace Phillip Brackett. Margaret worked for more that 20 years at Cone Mills before moving on to a role as a medical technician in home health care. Margaret was a former Sunday school teacher and faithful member of Wilson Baptist Church. She was a devoted and lov- ing mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Survivors include her son Donald Hugh Whitener of Forest City, two daugh- ters, Jane Ferguson Weast and husband Robbie of Rutherfordton, Pamela Ferguson Saine and hus- band Jamie of Mooresboro, a sister Roberta Bridges of Cliffside and a brother Johnny Brackett of Forest City. There are also 7 grand- children, and great-grand- child. A funeral service was held in the Wilson Baptist Church. Padgett & King Mortuary is serving the family. EDWARD "NED" HENDRICK Edward "Ned" Hendrick, age 82, of Rutherfordton, passed away December 14, 2019. He was the son of the late Andrew Ford Hendrick Sr. and the late Beuna Borders Hendrick and he was the widower of the late Barbara Jean Hendrick. Ned was a native of Cleveland County and a member of First United Methodist Church, Rutherfordton. In addition to his parents and his wife, Ned was preceded in death by three brothers: Ford Hendrick, Jack Hendrick and Bill Hendrick. He is survived by One Step-Son: Derek Smith and his wife Joy. One Brother: Joe Hendrick. Two Grandchildren. A graveside service was held at Cleveland Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Hospice House of the Carolina Foothills; P.O. Box 336, Forest City NC 28043. McMahan's Funeral Home is serving the fam- ily. GEORGE ALTON THOMPSON George Alton Thompson, age 94, of Spindale, passed away December 14, 2019. He was the son of the late George Thompson and the late Pearl Hinson Thompson. Alton was a native of Rutherford County and a member of Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. In addi- tion to his parents, Alton was preceded in death by his first wife, Beatrice Harris Thompson, daugh- ter, Geraldine Thompson, son, Steven Thompson, sisters, Louise Conner and Edith Wagner, and broth- ers, James Thompson and Lindberg McPherson. He is survived by his wife: Hilda Enloe Thompson. a1 daughter: Deborah Grindstaff and husband Steve. 4 Grandchildren, 2 Great-Grandsons, 4 Step- Grandchildren, 5 Step- Great-Grandchildren. The funeral service was held at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. Interment was held at Shiloh Baptist Church Cemetery. McMahan's Funeral Home is serving the family. BILL MILLER Bill Miller, longtime Tryon Attorney passed away December 5, 2019. Miller moved to Tryon in 1965 joining the law practice of McFarland and Lavender. He later began his own practice and con- tinued that practice until his retirement several years ago. During his time in Tryon he served the community in a variety of roles from Little League Coach, Tryon Fire Department, School Board Attorney, St. Luke's Hospital Board member, along with service to other civic organi- zations. Miller was born July 2, 1935 to the late William James Miller and Ollie Abrams Miller of Rutherfordton. Bill grad- uated from RS Central High School in 1953 and later joined the US Army, serving in Korea. Upon completing his service, he entered the University Of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he grad- uated in 1961. After gradua- tion, Miller began working for the Civil Service in Alabama. He later returned to UNC- Chapel Hill to attend law school where he graduated in 1965 and moved to Tryon. In addition to his par- ents and sister, he was pre- ceded in death by his spouse Sheila Lyles Miller. Miller is survived by 3 children; Bill (Valerie) Miller of Tryon, Jeff (Else) Miller of Tryon and Sherrie (Al) Simpson of Lancaster, SC and his 6 grandchildren. SHARON "MARLENE" GREENE Sharon "Marlene" Greene, age 71, of Lawndale, passed away December 5, 2019. Marlene was born October 1, 1948 in Gaston County to the late Mack Lewis and Virginia Lewis Painter. She was a graduate of Chase High School and was of the Baptist faith. Marlene worked thirty years for PPG Industries until retirement. She loved taking care of her family and especially spending time with her grandchildren. Marlene was a caring and giving person. In addition to her mother, she was preceded in death by one daughter, Amy Greene and a sister, Geraldine Shedd. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Scott Greene (Hannah) of Henrietta; brother, Richard Lewis of Tennessee; 3 grand- children, 1 great-grandson, & several nieces & neph- ews. A memorial service was conducted at the Harrelson Funeral Chapel. A committal service was held at Rutherford County Memorial Cemetery following the service. Harrelson Funeral and Cremation Services is serving the family. MICHAEL CARPENTER WHITESIDE M i c h a e l C a r p e n t e r Whiteside, age 78, of Conover, passed away December 15, 2019. Michael was a native of Rutherford county, the son of the late Clifford and Margaret Carpenter Whiteside, co-own- er of Whiteside Machine Company, a graduate of RS Central High School Class of 61 and was former- ly employed at Stonecutter Mills in Spindale. Left to cherish his mem- ory are his brothers Clifford "Mack" Whiteside Jr. and wife Mary Ann of Hudson, NC, William C. Whiteside of Taylorsville, NC; nieces Lori Brown (Stafford) of Hickory, Lisa W. Graves (Lowell) of Granite Falls, NC; neph- ews Clark Whiteside (Alisa) of Conover, and Kenny Whiteside (Traci) of Granite Falls, NC along with 3 Great Nieces, 6 great nephews and 2 Great Great Nieces. A service celebrating the life of Michael Carpenter Whiteside will be held at the graveside in Rutherfordton City Cemetery on Saturday December 21, 2019 at 1PM with Rev. Jeff Pate offici- ating.
