Hello Neighbors Recently the Council received a note from a winter visitor asking if the Town could do something about getting a pay phone installed somewhere for the public���s use, the Town has no control over the phone company and they install phones at their own discretion. Have you heard the term ���dump the drugs���? It is a program sponsored by ���QSAPC��� (Quartzsite Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition). It is for being able to safely dispose of outdated or no longer needed prescriptions or over the counter medications, you simply take the bottles (after you have removed your personal identi���cation) to the Quartzsite Police Department on Plymouth, you will remain anonymous. Bye for now, Patricia Anderson Quartzsite Town Council Grateful for Play Date for kids Last Thursday we had our grandchildren visiting us here in Quartzsite. We hadn���t seen them for a year and so this was special for us. They are 2 and 5 years old. As Quartzsite is mainly a nesting area for Snow Birds it���s understandable that there are few activities for youngsters. Accidentally we heard that Quartzsite has something special to entertain young children and so I���m writing this, in order to ���spread the good word���. You probably know about the wonderful playground, over by the Town Hall but I���ll bet you haven���t heard of the Preschool Play Date Fridays. This is ���an hour of organized play for kids 3-5���. It���s at the new Community Center, it���s on Fridays from 10:30 am to 11:30 am, and it���s free. It started February 15th and will go through March 22, 2013. Our younger one watched his brother and was able to entertain himself on the sidelines while his brother listened to a story and then participated in multiple activities. It���s only an hour but, for the children attending, it was so much fun. Now I have to add, it���s not a babysitting service. Parents are encouraged to stay and assist with activities and if younger children come there is a play area for them, but parents have to monitor their child���s behavior and take care of diapers etc. We���ve come to Quartzsite for years now, but this was a ���rst for us and it really was great that we heard of the program and were able to participate. It is something our grandson still talks about. In conclusion, I���d like to thank all of you who make this program so successful. For us, retirement looks a lot like what we do now, except no work and more travel. We Just Rambling... Our friend George, a stoic, urged by his wife, accompanied us to the movie, ���Around the World in Eighty Days.��� Showing no apparent interest until near the end, where the carriage is slowly moving, he shouted to the delight of the audience, ���Get that darn nag moving!��� A great evening. We have heard too many stories this year about people who waited too long to do the things they have always dreamed about doing. I don���t want to be in their shoes. Jean and Gary Of Jag Signs Married 62 years ago by Judge Hagley Loved your article on Judge Hagley. We were married by Judge Hagley in 1951, and he was so very nice. We now go to Quartzsite every year in January for the month. I always look at the house and remember the day we were married there. We also woke him up early and he was so nice about it. We just had our 62nd wedding anniversary this week and the article was in perfect timing. Thank you. Mrs. Everett Bedley Bad & good of Quartzsite About a week ago we notice a Quartzsite Police Car in the street by our home. A neighbor came to the door and informed us that the house had been ���egged���. Seems about three in the neighborhood had been attacked. I washed the eggs off the house and thought that was the end of the story. In the afternoon I went out to use my side by side and found that the windshield had also been ���egged���. By this time the egg had reacted with the plastic windshield and caused pitting. I see this every time I use the side by side and will have to replace it at a cost of $200 or so. The next night, I answered a knock on the door to ���nd a lady who asked if the house had been ���egged���. I said yes, and she said I should meet some people; four young girls and one young boy stepped up on the porch and in the front yard stood several adults. We were informed that the young people had done the ���egging��� and then the kids apologized and offered to work around the house for as long as we wanted to make up for the ���egging���. One father also stated that the kids would show up to work. We told them we did not have any work or really did not want the kids on the property.
