It will give you satisfaction in life.��� -- Wovoka, PAIUTE In a world where Domestic Violence and Child Abuse/Neglect scored in the top three health concerns in a Healthy La Paz survey, it���s obvious just how far we have strayed from our spiritual selves. All major religions and spiritual teachings focus on treating others with kindness and the ���Golden Rule���. But in our society today, people have strayed so far from those simple teachings. They get caught up in jealousy of others, wanting to be right, having power over another; with an epidemic of bullying in the schools, the workplace, and the Internet. Even in one local publication, it has become the norm to ridicule others for just being happy, nice or having hope for a better community. It really is getting old, and the more people believe that crap, the more they fall into the ���spiritless trap���! Quartzsite Elementary School held an informative Bully Awareness Town Hall meeting last week. Parents were obviously concerned for the safety of their children, not just physically, but emotionally. How our children behave is a direct re���ection upon, not just the parents, but our society as whole. With more bullying behaviors appearing in our schools, this re���ects how adults are behaving in our society. Domestic Violence is not something that can be tolerated in our county or anywhere in our world! Our children should not have to worry about going DUMP THE DRUGS March 6, 2013 to school in fear of what the ���bully��� will do next. Businesses owners should be able to express themselves without fear of being misquoted in a local tabloid. A Mayor of a small town should go out of his way to ���brag up��� the community, recognizing that the citizens, organizations, businesses, volunteers, and hard working parents need that support. Town leaders are the role models the younger generation looks up to. What are they seeing? Are they seeing those in power who abuse their authority to gain notoriety? Are they seeing town leaders attending school functions? (Well, that���s an obvious nope!) Are town leaders teaching our youth how to deal with con���ict in a peaceful manner? What healthy communication skills are our leaders demonstrating? I had once hoped that ���Quartzsite troubles��� could be blamed ���on the water���, tee hee... but our struggles are those of the world we all live in. I remember living in a society, not too long ago, that welcomed peaceful expression as the normal way of living. I remember being taught to treat each other with respect. I remember being shown how to make things right when we strayed from the spiritual path. Where is the ���Golden Rule��� in our society today? Let us ���nd it today! Local, regional, snowbird and student artists participated in the annual event. Artists paint during a two week period in October at the ���Rock Motel���, a transformed warehouse at Tyson Wells Showgrounds, which Kym Scott generously donated the usage. The Rock Art is placed on display at business sponsor���s locations around Quartzsite during the winter season. Visitors enjoyed using the ���Rock Art Map��� in Desert Messenger and visited each sponsor in search of their favorite Rock Art. Internet Blogs picked up on the fun, sharing the beautiful artwork. ���Public art is an essential component of creating a vibrant community. Corporations should be encouraged to play a part in furthering that goal,��� wrote Irv Weiser in the Seattle Times. Weiser is chairman of RBC Dain Rauscher, a securities ���rm based in Minneapolis and with of���ces in the Seattle area. Public art is uniquely accessible and enables people to experience art in the course of daily life, outside of museums or other cultural institutions. Public art provides everyone in the community direct and ongoing encounters with art. At the Rock Auction, attendees also voted on their favorite Rock Art. The winner of the People���s Choice Award goes to The Banded Gecko��� painted by Mark Goldberg.
