Page 28 March 6, 2013 Rainbow Acres golf scrambles end season with big wins By Linda Taylor Quartzsite, Arizona - Feb. 28 of���cially ended the Rainbow Acres Scrambles for the winter as 25 avid golfers gathered for the challenge. The tournament was won by the team of Robert Dickson and Larry Krohling who ���red a sizzling round of 37. Second place was taken by Gary McGowan and Jerry Taylor at 38, third place went to Pete Lilly and Bud Key with 39, fourth place winners at 40 were Bruce Scott and Brad Romaine, and ���fth place was captured by Sherm Cloward and Cletus Winkler with 41. How���s that for close competition! LeeRaye Christner won the long drive contest and Linda Taylor won closest to the pin while Cletus Winkler accomplished both feats for the men. This week���s hole-in-one club included triple aces by Gary McGowan on holes 1,11, & 18. A hole-in-one was scored by Larry Krohling on hole 3, Robert Dickson on hole 9, Pete Lilly on hole 11, Kent Limb on hole 17, and Bruce Scott on hole 1. The season���s best hole-in-one shooters were Gary McGowan with 4 and Bud Key, Jerry Taylor, Robert Dickson,& Pete Lilly with 3. Thank you to all our gol���ng friends for making this such a fun activity. We���re looking forward to an even bigger turnout next year! The morning was sunny but windy as 25 of us gathered for the 18-hole event. The team of Gary McGowan and Kit Wilkins led the way with a 38. Three teams tied for 2nd place with scores of 40; Grant Berube & Larry Krohling, Dino Linden & Cletus Winkler, Mike Stegeman & Jerry Taylor. The teams of John Fullmer & Russ Leininger and Sherm Cloward & Bud Key each shot 41 for the 5th best score of the day. In the closest to the pin contest, men���s winner was Mike Stegeman and winner for the women was Darlene Aitkin. The longest drive of the day for men came from Grant Berube and LeeRaye Christner won the honor for women. Pete Lilly scored a hole-in-one on the 9th hole while Cletus Winkler had holes-inone on the 15th and 17th hole. We have been keeping track of holes-inone this season and we have one more tournament left to decide the ���nal winner. Hope to see you on the links!
