COMMUNITY NEWS a STAFF REPORT The Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau (FACVB)is hosting an online photography contest through the fall to promote the beautiful surroundings of Cumberland County. The contest is open to anyone who would like to enter. Capture Cumberland County is a special photo contest that provides an opportunity for the casual and serious photographer alike to capture the natural beauty, unique character, unparalleled history, vibrant culture and hometown feeling that combine to make the greater Fayetteville area one of America's true treasures. Social Security Announces Increase for 2013 Photos can be submitted in four categories: landscape, events, architecture and patriotic. Digital submission should be sent to contest@ visitfayettevillenc.com starting Monday, Oct. 22. They must be in JPEG format and be received with all supporting materials by 11:59 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 9. Voting begins on Monday, Nov. 12. Prizes will be awarded in each category, with a grand prize that includes $300 cash, one night stay at Home2 Suite in Fayetteville, two tickets to a show at the Gilbert Theater, $50 gift certificate to Huske Hardware, one family membership to Fascinate-U Children's Museum, a gift certificate for two to ZipQuest Waterfall & Treetop Adventure, plus the First Place Prize for winning your category. Other prizes have been provided by Cape Fear Botanical Garden, Gates Four Golf & Country Club, Bayonet at Puppy Creek Golf Club, Millstone Theatres, The Fayetteville Area Convention & Visitors Bureau and the Fayetteville Observer. IMA Monthly Social Security and Supplemental Security Income benefits for nearly 62 million Americans will increase 1.7 percent in 2013, the Social Security Administration announced. The 1.7 percent cost-of-living adjustment will begin with benefits that more than 56 million Social Security beneficiaries receive in January 2013. Increased payments to more than 8 million SSI beneficiaries will begin on Dec. 31. Social Security taxes in 2013, nearly 10 million will pay higher taxes as a result of the increase in the taxable maximum. Information about Medicare changes for 2013, when announced, will be available at www.Medicare.gov. For some beneficiaries, their Social Security increase may be partially or completely offset by increases in Medicare premiums. The Social Security Act provides for how the COLA is calculated. Based on that increase, the maximum amount of earnings subject to the Social Security tax (taxable maximum) will increase to $113,700 from $110,100.
