FEBRUARY 8-14, 2017 UCW 19 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM The FTCC Foundation, Inc., is a 501(c)(3) organization, and all donations are tax-deductible to the extent allowed by law. The purposes of the FTCC Foundation are: 1. Raise money from private sources to build up the FTCC Foundation financial base. 2. Manage the collection, investment, and distribution of private gifts for FTCC students, faculty and staff. 3. Provide meaningful programs and services to FTCC Alumni and friends by managing an effective alumni program. In addition to annual fundraising events, Fayetteville Technical Community College Foundation, Inc., offers several ways for donors to help students continue their education and achieve their career goals. Each gift helps FTCC fulfill its mission and provide direct and indirect resources to enhance student success. Options include endowed scholarships, restricted scholarships, planned giving, event sponsorships and athletic sponsorships. Endowed Scholarships An endowed scholarship invests a principal gift for long-term appreciation, and only the interest earned is awarded as a scholarship. Endowed scholarships are typically named in honor or memory of an individual or in the name of an organization or business. The benefactor of an FTCC Foundation, Inc., scholarship chooses the eligibility criteria of a student. For a perpetual scholarship, the FTCC Foundation, Inc., requires a minimum level of $15,000 for endowed scholarships. Restricted Scholarships Restricted scholarships are established by clubs, organizations and individuals. The value begins at $1,000, and the donors typically make an annual contribution for the award. The benefactor of an FTCC Foundation, Inc., scholarship chooses the eligibility criteria. Through the generosity of donors, FTCC equips students with practical skills and knowledge to prepare them for successful careers. For example, since 1985, Cumberland Community Foundation has contributed over $262,728 to the FTCC Foundation, including the prestigious Robert H. Short / Cumberland Community Foundation Scholars Program. Just during the fall semester 2016, more than 13 students have benefitted from this generous gift. Another prestigious scholarship is the Tom McLean Ambassador program. These students represent the college at events on and off campus. Through a competitive selection process, seven students were selected this year as Tom McLean Ambassadors. Planned Giving Philanthropic giving must be weighed by financial needs and tax planning. The following are options for planned gifts. 1. Outright Gift of Cash 2. Outright Gift of Securities 3. Gift of Life Insurance 4. Gift of Real Estate 5. Charitable Lead Trust 6. Gift in Will or Trust 7. Gift of Retirement Plan 8. Retained Life Insurance 9. Charitable Remainder Trust 10. Charitable Gift Annuity Event Sponsorships The Foundation hosts annual events to support scholarships and the college's greatest needs. Two major fundraisers are the Silent Auction and Golf Tournament April 27-28 2017 at Gates Four and the Chair's Gala at FTCC usually occurring in October. Athletic Sponsorships Following a more than 40-year hiatus, athletics have returned to FTCC with men's and women's basketball and golf programs. The Trojan Shield Club supports athletics and provides recognition to donors. The Ladies Shop 'til You Drop Expo is scheduled for Feb 17-18 at the Crown Expo Center. The event is about shopping, entertainment and fun. "We've worked hard to put together an event that offers a variety of shopping opportunities as well as fun entertainment that will keep everyone smiling throughout the day," said co-organizer Marie Rudolph. "We have exciting acts scheduled to entertain everyone. From fashion shows to dance routines to music, there will be a lot going on throughout the weekend." There are also fun giveaways, door prizes and more planned. On Friday night, get your Sparkle on! Wear any type of Tiara for a discount off your entry. While the event is fun and entertaining, it is also for a good cause. Rudolph and co-organizer Donna Meixsell plan to donate a portion of the proceeds to Cash for the Classroom and the Kidsville News Literacy and Education Foundation. "We want to make a difference in the community and this seemed like a great way to have a lot of fun while supporting great causes," said Rudolph. Another bonus for attendees is the Swag Bags that will be handed out to the first 100 attendees each day. Rudolph said she is excited about the bags because "people don't want to take home bags filled with literature," she said. "They want fun things they can use. Things that will make them smile — and that is what we plan to do." The Ladies Shop 'til You Drop Expo opens at 10 a.m. and runs through 8 p.m. on Feb. 17 and 10 a.m. through 6 p.m. on Feb. 18.
