Laura Reyes is the 2016 PAL Martial Arts Program Volunteer of the Year. The award was recently presented by Lt. Lou Aviles, area commander for the Red Bluff Califor- nia Highway Patrol and board president of PAL, at the January PAL Board of Directors meeting at M&M Ranch House Res- taurant. The Tehama County Police Activities League holds its monthly meet- ings at the restaurant at noon on the third Thurs- day of each month. Meet- ings are open to the pub- lic. The North Valley Health Education Foundation, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corpora- tion established in 1973, is now accepting scholarship applications for the 2017- 2018 school year through Feb. 28. The foundation gives scholarships to students who have an intention of returning to Northern Cal- ifornia to pursue a career in a medical related field. Preference is given to any student who has gradu- ated from a high school in Tehama, Butte, Yuba, Sut- ter, Colusa, Glenn, Shasta, Plumas, Lassen, Modoc, Siskiyou, Trinity, Hum- boldt, Del Norte and Yolo counties. Scholarship applications are available to down- load at nvhef.org/scholar- ships.html. Scholarships are available to students enrolled in health pro- fessions at Butte College, Chico State, University of California Davis and En- loe Medical Center. Schol- arship applications should be mailed to the address listed below by Feb. 28 for general applications and Feb. 17 for University of California Davis medical students. This year the founda- tion has joined with En- loe Medical Center to fur- ther its efforts, as well as the foundation's efforts, to recruit more medical doctors to the local com- munity. Scholarships are being offered to medical students and residents through the new Enloe Medical Center Invest in the Future Scholarship. This application is avail- able at nvhef.org. It was introduced in Chico yesterday by a pretty young miss who is em- ployed by the — she is em- ployed. The new style which was introduced, much to the edification of those who chanced to see it, was the wearing of a white stock- ing upon one limb and a black one on the other. The young miss said nothing whatever about the new style. She paid no heed to the notice she was attracting sa the folks gazed at the two inches of exposed white and black stockings. Girls, here's the very latest fad in styledom Boy Scouts Troop 5 in Corning will be holding a paper drive at 9 a.m. Sat- urday, Feb. 4. Arrests JamesGregoryAbold: 52, of Red Bluff was arrested and booked into Tehama County Jail Friday on the felony charge of burglary and oral copulation with an unconscious victim. No bail was set. Shantel Marie Almanza: 41, of Red Bluff was ar- rested and booked Friday on the charges of burglary and grand the . Bail was set at $50,000. Carlin Rebecca Bowles: 22, of Red Bluff was ar- rested and booked Friday on the charge of hit and run causing injury or death. Bail was set at $25,000. Steven Russell Capps: 44, of Red Bluff was arrested and booked Friday on the charges of assault with a deadly weapon, criminal threats and inflicting corpo- ral injury on a spouse. Bail was set at $130,000. Nicholis Cole Hudson: 27, of Red Bluff was arrested and booked Friday on the charge of threatening with intent to terrorize. Bail was set at $54,000. Oscar Jesus Tozcano- Garcia: 37, of Redding was arrested and booked Friday on the charge of battery. Bail was set at $4,000. Karly Shawnta Haw- thorne: 20, of Red Bluff was arrested and booked Saturday on the charges of being prohibited from possessing ammunition and possession of a firearm by a felon. No bail was set. Alfredo Ramiro Galvan: 31, of Red Bluff was arrested and booked Sunday on the charge of assault with a deadly weapon other than a firearm likely to cause great bodily injury. Bail was set at $30,000. Burglary 100block of Washington Street: Sometime between Thursday and Friday a residence in this area was burglarized. Miscellaneous documents were stolen. 300block of Paskenta Road: Sometime between Jan. 20and Friday a shop was burglarized. Paynes Creek Area: Mul- tiple cabins were broken into and items, including all terrain vehicles and solar panels, were stolen. Collision Interstate 5, south of Hooker Creek Road: A Fall River Mills man was driving his 1997Chevy pickup truck at midnight Sunday north- bound on I-5when he lost control of his vehicle, ran off the road and struck an em- bankment. Steven Schwe- gerl, 62, suffered moderate injuries and was transported to St. Elizabeth Community Hospital. Schwegerl was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Suspicious Ash Street: A person reported seeing a man entering a house through a window near the chimney. Elder Creek Circle, Corn- ing: A man reported at 2:13 a.m. Sunday shots were heard from his neighbor west of his residence. 99W and Hamilton Av- enue: A be-on-the-lookout was issued for a hit and run suspect last seen heading southbound. The vehicle was described as a silver Volkswagen with paper plates. The Cabernet Apartments: A vehicle was broken into while parked between Sat- urday and Sunday. Travel Centers of America on 99W: A woman reported Sunday that a 100-gallon propane tank was stolen off her parents' taco truck. West Street, Corning: It was reported Sunday that a 24-speed boys gray Mongoose mountain bike with yellow and red writing on it was stolen from the backside of the property Sunday. Tehama Family Fitness Center: Between 9:50and 11:50a.m. Friday two vehi- cles windows were smashed and items were stolen. Trespassing Samson Avenue, Corning: A woman reported Friday that she caught a man tres- passing in her open garage. He ran off on foot when she came outside with her dogs.
