JANUARY 11-17, 2017 UCW 11 WWW.UPANDCOMINGWEEKLY.COM The induction ceremony for members of FTCC's Chapter of National Society of Leader- ship and Success is an impor- tant step for members who have completed all require- ments. Induction ceremonies are held in December and May. After the ceremony, members officially become active lifetime members of the society. Completion of the membership requirements is just the first step in a larger journey shared with fellow participants. Each induction ceremony recognizes members for their achievements. The ceremony includes a presentation of awards to staff and/or faculty who inspire students beyond the classroom, demonstrate dedication to developing students beyond academic qualifications and/or make a positive difference in the lives of society members. With each ceremony, a guest is invited to fill the role of keynote speaker. The guest speaker is a member of the Cumberland County community who exemplifies the principles and values of the Society. These individuals have played an integral role in fostering opportunities for growth and develop- ment for members of the community, including NSLS members. Their ac- tions make a huge impact on the community and touch the lives of citizens in need. They are men and women who have made a commitment to pursue success, take action and seek and clarify their purpose. They have also em- braced the idea that people can achieve more when they work together. Previous speakers for the induction ceremony have included the Honor- able Stephen Craig Stokes (District Court Judge for the 12th Judicial Dis- trict, Cumberland County), Mrs. Lisa Long (Program Coordinator for the Master of Justice Administration Program at Methodist University), and Julia V. Miller, PE (Civil Engineer at Froehling & Robertson, Inc., and owner of Elite Pro Training Studio). This year the Society is excited to welcome keynote speaker, Tammy Lau- rence, executive director of Fayetteville Area Habitat for Humanity, Inc. Her background includes fundraising, board development, non-profit manage- ment, volunteer management, community outreach and organizing, strate- gic planning, annual giving and event-planning. Presently, Laurence is busy coordinating efforts with other individuals and services to provide for the needs of families who suffered from the devastation caused by Hurricane Matthew. Her dedication to God, human- ity and improving the community has made a tremendous impact within the community. As the year comes steadily to a close, the chapter is able to reflect on the many goals achieved together. Membership in this professional devel- opment opportunity has made an impact on the members, FTCC and the community. Members receive an educational experience through being able to interact with and learn from some of the strongest leaders in the commu- nity, structured training and livestream broadcasts from some of the most well-recognized and inspiring names in the world of leadership and prac- tical experience. Members become eager to follow the lead and support those who are making a difference in unexpected ways and places. FTCC offers many ways to help students grow professionally.
