Back in the 1970s when Linda and Kendra sold their steers, John Wheeler Logging Company, Te- hama Angus Ranch, Shasta Livestock Auction Yard, Production Credit, Red Bluff Bull Sale, Pa- cific Farms, Pat Jenkins, George Growney Motors, Tehama County Cattle- men, Crane Mills were al- ways listed among the buyers at the sale, and they are still supporting the youth of the county. When I was secre- tary/bookkeeper for the Jr. Fat Sale, we were thrilled when we reached $100,000 in sales. In 2006, with 289 lots, the sale grossed $450,879.50. This year, in 2016 there were 330 lots that grossed $757,453.85. 2009 — Of the 38 steers sold, 21 were be- low $ 2.00 a pound. The Tehama County Cattle- men budgeted $4,000 at their last meeting to raise the price of those steers to $1.88 a lb. This year TCCA raised the beef to $3.12 a lb. Add-on's to- taled $45,509.00 when totaled. The auctioneers, Matt Wolters and Jake Parnell didn't lose their voices during the 7 hours and 15 minutes. The volun- teers and sale committee, too numerous to men- tion, worked to make it a smooth running sale. My only complaint was the puncture vines or as some call them, goat heads, in the Trin- ity Avenue parking lot. This noxious weed has been spread over Te- hama County during and following the fair. They stuck to your shoes and to your tires. Please spray or do something next spring and get them con- trolled. Volume buyers were Red Bluff Chrysler- Dodge-Jeep with 9 lots or animals, with Corning Ford at 7, Benny Brown's Susanville Ford 3 lots. Outback Construction with 8 lots, Basin Ex- cavating with 6. John Wheeler Logging with 8 head, Triple R Gas pur- chased 7 lots.
