Bailey Sisson is being charged as an adult and will be back in court for a settlement confer- ence on Monday, according to a Tehama County Superior Court clerk spokeswoman. Sisson was involved in an al- tercation with a neighbor over a road rage incident in which she was shot by a man. It was deter- mined the man who shot her did so in self-defence due to physical evidence and corroborating state- COURT Te en p le ads not guilty to a ss au lt charges By Heather Hoelscher hhoelscher@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Heather on Twitter RED BLUFF The City Council ap- proved, as part of the consent agenda July 19, the Cal Recycle improvement project at the for- mer burn dump, which will con- sist of consolidating and cap- ping the waste materials as well as capping a portion of the burn ash in place. The California Natural Re- sources Agency's Department of Resources, Recycling and Recov- ery, or Cal Recycle, is implement- ing a remediation project asso- ciated with the burn dump site, located less than a mile from downtown Red Bluff at Baker Road and Walbridge Street. The project is expected to start next week, said City Manager Richard Crabtree at Tuesday's council meeting. The remediation includes re- moval and consolidation of some 10,000 cubic yards of waste from the main tributary and most of its branches, said Public Works Director Bruce Henz. The waste CAL RECYCLE Council OKs burn dump cleanup By Heather Hoelscher hhoelscher@redbluffdailynews.com @DN_Heather on Twitter RED BLUFF Superintendent William McCoy of the Red Bluff Union Elementary School Dis- trict has accepted a superinten- dent position in the Bay Area to be close to his fiancée and fam- ily members. The district's Board of Trust- ees accepted McCoy's resigna- tion Thursday at a special meet- ing and appointed an interim su- perintendent. The board chose Assistant Su- perintendent Claudia Salvestrin to serve as interim superinten- dent. McCoy, who has been the dis- trict's superintendent for seven years, has accepted a job as the Superintendent of the Sausalito Marin City School District. He is set to begin the position on Aug. 15. "I will really miss the peo- ple of this district," McCoy said. "We have an outstanding group of staff here and amazing fami- lies that deserve our best." McCoy spent a decade in the district working two years as the Principle of Vista Middle School, now Vista Preparatory Acad- emy, and at Metteer Elementary School for a year before becom- ing the superintendent. McCoy grew up in Sonoma County and said he is looking forward to being back with fam- ily members who still live in the area. McCoy's last day with the Red Bluff Union Elementary School District will be on Aug. 12. One of the best ways to en- sure long-term health for lo- cal youth is by promoting the benefits of breastfeeding from birth as doing so exclusively for the first six months of a baby's life lowers their risk for becoming overweight or obese as an adult, said Public Health Director Minnie Sagar in reading the proclamation. Breastfeeding helps to grow a strong, healthy immune sys- tem in babies and can reduce the number of incidents as well asseverityofinfectiousdiseases such as pneumonia or meningi- tis in infants, Sagar said. "Breastfeeding signifi- cantly supports the child's mental health, cognitive health and overall health," Sagar said. "We've been do- ing this walk three years and each year we get a few more people. We've had as many as 30. We do the walk in recog- nition of World Breastfeeding Week and to promote the im- portance of breastfeeding in the development and health of a child. It's also to ac- knowledge the moms who are breastfeeding and encourage those who aren't." Karli Hurton of Red Bluff, who is due to have her fifth child Sept. 11, came out for the event with her children Madison, Evelyn, Patrick and Jocelyn.
