TheAprilmeetingofthe Sacramento River Discovery Center Board is set for Tues- day, April 12 at the Tehama County Farm Bureau Office on Sale Lane in Red Bluff. April really begins the busy season at the center, which extends from April and the beginnings of school groups through July and the end of the summer camps. The amount of in- formation and planning at the board meetings also ac- celerates. This month's agenda will include summer camps, the Children's Faire, the Spring Plant Sale and the 20th an- niversary on April 23 — Earth Day is April 22. DISCOVERYCENTER Bo ar ds t o me et T ue sd ay By Kelly Osborne The VSO office is in need of an additional VA work study. Veterans who are us- ing VA education benefits and a full-time or -time student in a college degree, vocational or professional program can "earn while you learn" with the VA work study program. The pay is minimum wage at the national or state pay level, whichever is higher. The VSO will inter- view and send the screened candidates for a live scan before employment. Please contact the VSO at the num- ber listed below for details and application form. Corning VSO satellite of- fice walk-in days are the first three Tuesdays of the month. If the demand con- tinues like it has been for the past three weeks, we will add another day to the Corning VSO schedule. Corning DMV form as- sistance will be by walk in during regularly scheduled VSO visits and the DMV form will be mailed back to you the same afternoon from the Red Bluff office, or we can bring it back to you the following week during our Corning VSO visit. Once the DMV form is validated/ stamped by the VSO, the form is ready to be taken to the DMV. Beverly Holden recently passed her CalVet accredi- tation test and received her accreditation letter, so she will be able to sign the DMV forms on site in Corning. Congratulations again to Beverly. We will not be able to issue Tehama County ID Cards in Corning until we resolve IT issues. In addition to helping with claims, the VSO of- fice began validating mili- tary service for honorably discharged Veterans who would like to have "Vet- eran" noted on their Cali- fornia Driver's License. As with Tehama County Vet- eran ID cards, please bring your DD-214. As staffing permits, we will issue the Veteran Department of Motor Vehicle (DMV) pa- perwork for your Califor- nia Driver's License in the Red Bluff office on 9-11 a.m. Mondays and Wednesdays. As a reminder, assisting veterans and their fami- lies with their VA claims is our highest priority, as we have veterans with serious health and financial issues. COMMUNITY California is a foodie state if there ever was one. There's no better place to grow food, explore food in- novations, or market food. Many California Associ- ation for Micro Enterprise Opportunity members are seeing more clients in the food sector — from raw foods to wholesale to arti- san products. CAMEO has teamed up with the UDSA, the Specialty Food Associ- ation, Butte County and 3CORE to offer up a full day of learning about the food industry: business and marketing opportuni- ties, how to stay viable and competitive and financing. If you work with food businesses, or are inter- ested in starting one, Micro Goes to Market is for you. The workshop is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Thurs- day, April 14 at Manzanita Place, 1705 Manzanita Ave. in Chico. This top-notch train- ing is offered to five Ru- ral North counties served by 3Core and its collab- orative partners: Butte, Shasta, Siskiyou, Tehama and Trinity. Their natural, existing resources are also fertile ground for business opportunities. Through this training, they support a locally- based economy that recog- nizes job creation through food entrepreneurship. The goal is to create a thriving climate and culture for home-based microbusi- nesses engaged in value- added food ventures. There will be a specialty food exhibit during the re- ception 4-6 p.m. If you would like to display your product, write to Andrew Cole at acole@microbiz.org for more information.
