As the weather gets warmer, people are starting to make their plans for their new adventures. For the last 13 years I have had a GPS on my bike. Learning my GPS has come in many forms. The functions have changed over the years as well as the software. Originally, the GPS was not made specifically for motorcycles. At first, the weather and the vibrations killed the device on a motorcycle. Over time, Garmin and Tom Tom GPS makers went after the motorcycle market and have made wonderful improvements. Today, GPS is more integrated with the bike and is loaded with smart safety features and a myriad of navigational choices. The Garmin Zūmo 390LM has a wide 4.3" touchscreen that is easy to read, even in sunlight. Its glove-friendly intuitive interface makes entering information as easy as shifting gears. With a rugged body that is resistant to fuel sprays and UV rays in addition to being water-rated to IPX7. IPX7 is a standard that says the device is built to withstand splashes, rain, snow or incidental exposure to water for up to 1 meter for up to 30 minutes. The new Garmin Zūmo 390LM not only displays your speed but what the speed limit is. Riders can also monitor motorcycle tire pressure on the zūmo display with the Tire Pressure Monitor Sensor system from Garmin (sold separately). The 390LM also uses the latest in Bluetooth technologies. The device will connect with your smartphone and Bluetooth headset (sold separately) to transmit turn-by- turn directions and play mp3 while displayed on the screen. New to GPS is the new "Garmin Adventurous Routing" so riders can select the level of twists and hills on every journey. The Zūmo 395 presents innovative features specifically designed for motorcyclists with the introduction of rider alerts which alerts you to sharp curves ahead, speed changes, railroad and animal crossings, school zones and more. Additionally, you're notified when you need to check state helmet laws — or when you're about to drive the wrong way on a one-way street. Forgot when the last time you changed your battery? No worries, this GPS has a built-in trip computer with that allows you to put that in the GPS. It also has a digital fuel gauge comes standard with the Zūmo 395LM. So it's easy to estimate how many miles you can ride before you'll be running on empty. Plus, a digital compass display and a database of motorcycle-specific points of interest are on hand to help you locate cycle repair services, dealers and more. There's also a Service History Log on your zūmo to help you keep track of service dates, mileage and performed maintenance on your bike.
