Community Concerts opened its 80th season with a bang as Daryl Hall
and John Oates took the stage in Fayetteville. The second concert in the
season is set for Jan. 21 and looks to be another banner night. Music legend
Peter Cetera is set to
perform at the Crown.
Many know him as the
singer/song w r iter and
bass player for t he band
Chic ago. From 1968 to
1986, t he band topped
t he char t s w it h hit s
like "If You Leave Me
Now," "Hard to Say I'm
Sor r y," "Baby W hat a
Big Sur pr ise," " You're
t he Inspirat ion," "St ay
t he Night ," "Love Me
Tomor row," "Happy Man",
"Feeling St ronger Ever y
Day " and "A long Comes a Woman."
Cetera didn't miss a beat starting his solo career in 1986. His songs
have won awards, placed on the charts and graced the scores of several
movies. He's recorded 10 CDs, which include #1 hits, the Academy Award
nominated song "The Glory of Love" from the hit movie The Karate Kid II,
as well as "The Next Time I Fall" with Amy Grant, "Feels Like Heaven" with
Chaka Kahn, "After All" with Cher from the motion picture Chances Are, "No
Explanation" from the mega hit film, Pretty Woman and the unforgettable
"Restless Heart."
Born in Chicago in 1944, Cetera grew up in a family that loved music.
His first musical instrument was the accordion. After seeing his first rock
concert, The Rebel Rockets, Cetera knew he was destined for the stage. He
saved $85, bought his first guitar and started a band with his high school
friend. The pair played at football games and dances until they graduated.
From there, he played with the Exceptions until joining Chicago in 1967. The
rest is history.
With his long track
record of hits, Cetera is
just the kind of artist
that makes Community
Concerts the success it is.
"There is probably not one
of his songs that you won't
recognize," said Michael
Fleishman, long-time
board member and current
Community Concerts
attractions director.
In its 80-year history,
Community Concerts
has always focused on
bringing high-quality
entertainment to Fayetteville. This year, the all-volunteer organization
decided to focus on bringing bigger names to the community and chose to
produce fewer shows to make that happen. It was a calculated move, but one
that felt right. The next two concerts in this year's season are Boyz II Men
on March 11 and late night TV superstar Jay Leno on April 15.
While Community Concerts is about great entertainment, it's really about
the community. From scholarships to the Fayetteville Music Hall of Fame
to showcasing local talent, Community Concerts strives to
enrich the community. In fact, it's right on the website www.
community-concerts.com/ "Our
goal is to make Fayetteville better …
one concert at a time."
