The brave crews embodied the romantic ideal of explorers. Under their fearless captains they ran headlong into the inky darkness. Along the way they explored new planets and fought righteous battles. Though Star Trek explored the far reaches of space, it is coming to the concert halls for the first time ever this year in Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage. The concert will be at the Crown Theatre on Jan. 24 at 6:30 p.m. Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage is a compilation of 50 years of amazing Star Trek music. This year the incredible music of Star Trek throughout the years is finally getting the attention it deserves. It will be performed by a live symphony orchestra. The music on screen is often underappreciated. The music includes pieces from The Original Series, Star Trek: The Motion Picture, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, Star Trek IVL The Voyage Home, Star Trek: Insurrection, Star Trek: The Next Generation, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine and Star Trek: Voyager to name a few. "It is very rare to find intellectual property that has the longevity of Star Trek," said Brady Beaubien the show's writer and producer. "In this show you see the most fundamental ideas that can be talked about in entertainment realized. Great archetypes have the opportunity to play out over 50 years in one intellectual property. There have been many crews but the themes remained stable." The concerts are produced by CineConcerts. CineConcerts specializes in a unique hybridization of music and visual media. Past productions have included full-length movie screenings with live orchestras, concerts for other cinematic masterpieces like Gladiator and The Godfather and music interactions with sporting events. Justin Freer is the founder and producer of CineConcerts and the conductor for Star Trek: The Ultimate Voyage. His experience has made him an extremely popular conductor. He has appeared with notable orchestras like the Chicago Symphony and Philadelphia Orchestra. Their experience meshing cinema and orchestral music is perfect for presenting Star Trek. The music evokes the spirit of adventure and the exciting beauty of space. The music is an integral part of the visual experience. Likewise the visual components enhance the excitement and potency of the music. Both the music and the shows are iconic pieces of American culture. While the live symphony orchestra performs a 40-foot wide screen will show the most iconic Star Trek footage from both TV and film. "The music of movies and TV is some of the best classical compositions in our generations…we have the opportunity to highlight some of the most talented artists on the planet. Classical musicians are sadly under celebrated in our generation. We are highlighting their talent and the genre by using well- known productions like Star Trek to make it new and exciting," said Beaubien. This presentation of the iconic Star Trek makes it available to fans of all kinds. For old Star Trek fans it is a fun new way to experience old favorites. For fans of the symphony it is an invigorating new dimension to a familiar style of performance. It is a symphony orchestra, but it is unlike any other symphony orchestra around. Skilled classical musicians bring familiar scores from the screen to life and on the giant screen space adventures unfold right before your eyes. Star Trek has been providing audiences with spectacular adventures for years, and this interpretation is no exception.
