Edmonton Oilers at Anaheim Ducks: 8:30p.m., NHL. Ontheair veteran receiver Larry Fitzgerald said. "Coach says it all the time: This is our football team. We're only going to be as good as we decide to be." SEATTLEREBOUND No one in the division rode a big- ger roller coaster through eight games than the Se- ahawks. From holdouts to car crashes to starting 0-2, Seattle rebounded from all those obstacles to get back to .500 at the midway point and control what happens in the division going for- ward. The issue in the sec- ond half for Seattle will be rectifying problems on the offensive line. Russell Wilson is on pace to be sacked more than 60 times, though there was a glim- mer of optimism as Seattle held Dallas without a sack in a 13-12 win before the Seahawks' bye week. Seattle gets a rare three- game homestand to begin the second half, starting with the Cardinals. Beat Arizona and the division race will likely remain wide open to the end. "We have a second half to really go for it," Seattle coach Pete Carroll said. RUNNING RAMS Gurley has been the engine be- hind the Rams, flashing as potentially the next great running back in the league. St. Louis was smart in bringing along Gurley slowly as he completed the recovery from a torn ACL suffered in college. When he finally debuted, Gurley brought an explosive ele- ment previously missing from the offense. Gurley has rushed for at least 100 yards in four of the past five games, but St. Louis still needs other parts of its offense to show up, as evi- denced by its loss to Min- nesota when Gurley was held to 89 yards. "I just do my job, look at my keys, and run," Gurley said. The Rams will have a chance to hang around with three straight home games in December, but their only two road tests come at Cincinnati (cur- rently 8-0) and Seattle. REBUILDING 49ERS San Francisco took a major step in moving beyond 2015 with the decision to trade tight end Vernon Da- vis and bench quarterback Colin Kaepernick. It leaves the rest of the season as an experiment for coach Jim Tomsula to figure out who he wants back and prove he deserves to be back. San Francisco's first half was defined by inconsis- tency. The optimism of an opening win over Minne- sota was quickly gone af- ter the 49ers lost six of the next seven. Last Sunday's win over Atlanta could prove a mirage for the 49ers, with games against the Seahawks and Cardi- nals coming out of their bye. "Whatever 11 guys we march out on the field we're going to go up there and expect a victory," Gab- bert said. SHOWDOWNS TO WATCH The two games between Se- attle and Arizona will ob- viously impact the division race the most, but watch for a five-day stretch in early December when the Seahawks travel to Minne- sota and then the Vikings travel to the Cardinals on a Thursday night. Both Seat- tle and Arizona could end up fighting with the Vi- kings for a playoff spot. PREDICTED ORDER OF FIN- ISH Cardinals, Seahawks, Rams, 49ers. West FROM PAGE 1 up on Luck from the front while defensive end Vance Walker hit Luck hard on the side of his left shoul- der, bending him over awk- wardly. The hit drew immedi- ately drew gasps inside Lu- cas Oil Stadium. But Luck broke the 17-17 tie on the next play with an 8-yard pass to Ahmad Bradshaw, his second TD throw of the game. He never came out and continued to take some big hits. Afterward, Pagano said, Luck complained of sore- ness. When he arrived at the team complex Mon- day feeling worse, Luck was sent for additional tests that revealed the in- juries. Luck is not expected to need surgery. He was not available in the locker room Monday and did not mention any potential in- jury in his postgame news conference. The six-week timeta- ble could be aggressive be- cause the Colts will be cau- tious about bringing Luck back. "We're going to keep lis- tening to the doctors and evaluating his progress on a week-by-week basis," Pagano said. "We've got all the confidence in the world in Matt Hasselbeck and we're not going to put Andrew back out there un- til he's healed and ready to go." The timing couldn't be worse for Indianapolis (4- 5), which was hoping to re- turn form this week's bye and build momentum with a favorable schedule. In- stead, one week after fir- ing offensive coordinator Pep Hamilton and replac- ing him with Rob Chudz- inski, the Colts are now forced into making a quar- terback change. The 40-year-old Has- selbeck takes over, as he did last month when Luck missed two games with an injured right shoulder. Hasselbeck won both. Indy took another pre- caution Tuesday by bring- ing former Monmouth quarterback Alex Tan- ney back to the practice squad. He spent three weeks in Indy earlier this season, none of it on the active roster. Luck, Has- selbeck and Tanney are the only quarterbacks on the team after Indy re- leased former Wiscon- sin-Whitewater star Matt Blanchard from the prac- tice squad Tuesday. "We've got all the con- fidence in the world in Matt," Pagano said. "Matt will step right in, he will do a great job and we will win football games with Matt." Hasselbeck was 48 of 76 with 495 yards, three touchdowns and no inter- ceptions in his only ac- tion this season, and hav- ing a bye week to work with Chudzinski could help make the transition smoother. Playing behind a strug- gling offensive line has taken a toll on the Luck this season. He missed the first two games of his four-year ca- reer after getting hurt at Tennessee on Sept. 27. When Luck did return, he still didn't look right. Then last week, he was listed on the injury report with a bad ankle. He started, finished and won Sun- day's game, looking more like the promising young quarterback that people expected. There has been specu- lation about possible frac- tured ribs and a more se- rious shoulder injury than the Colts first acknowl- edged. "We will overcome this and Andrew will make a full recovery and he will be back in the lineup at some point," Pagano said. "But we will overcome." Colts FROM PAGE 1 Crawford improved as well. He trimmed his er- rors from 21 in 2014 to a career-low 13. He attrib- uted his improved consis- tency to focusing on get- ting his feet under him while making throws. But actually, his biggest im- provement came at catch- ing the routine plays. He mishandled just four balls for errors and didn't have a single missed catch error all season. "I cut down on the plays where I maybe try to do a little too much," he said. Crawford registered outs on 93 percent of balls fielded, a career best. A cynic also would note that Crawford had his fin- est offensive season, reach- ing 21 home runs and 84 RBIs while being named to the NL All-Star team via the player ballot. And although batting prowess shouldn't count, it often leaks into the process when managers and coaches fill out their Gold Glove bal- lots. But for the first time this year, a statistical in- dex comprised of several defensive metrics made up 25 percent of the Gold Glove formula. And Craw- ford led all NL shortstops in that index, which in- cludes range factor, defen- sive runs saved and ulti- mate zone rating. The Braves' Simmons, who had won the NL Gold Glove at shortstop in each of his two full big-league seasons, ap- peared to have a reputa- tion lock on the award. But the defensive met- rics helped Crawford edge out Simmons this time. Excelling in two of the last four World Se- ries probably helped en- hance Crawford's visibil- ity among voters, too. The award is one more golden feather in Craw- ford's cap as he and the Giants go into his second year of salary arbitration. It's anticipated that the two sides will talk about a mul- tiyear deal, either this win- ter or in spring training. Crawford cannot become a free agent until after the 2017 season. The Giants are just be- ginning their foray into this winter's free-agent marketplace for starting pitchers. Now they can in- clude a Gold Glove short- stop as part of their re- cruiting pitch, which is a thought that Crawford rel- ishes. "(Mike) Leake, once he came over to us, said, 'If I'm going to stay, they have to sign you to an exten- sion, too,'" Crawford said. "It's just joking around, but it's cool to hear that from a pitcher. You're out there trying to make plays for them."
