Any t hing is possible and ever y perspec- t ive is relevant . Showcasing t hat t hrough ar t is a way to connect w it h ever y person in t he Fayet tev ille area. Point of View is the current exhibit on display at the Arts Council. A call for art went our inviting the community to send in photographs for this exhibit. One hundred and nineteen pieces made the cut. Forty-six artists were involved in show- ing their work and their point of view on life. The photos are displayed in black and white and color. Each photo has a unique size with dif- ferent fames to go along with a different artist. This gives each photo a unique presence on the white wall. "I'm always excited to see the striking black- and-white photography, which can create an awesome impression despite the absence of color," said Mary Kinney, marketing director of the Arts Council. "The art work in this exhibition represents a variet y of themes. You'll see every- thing from buildings to landscapes. Many of the pieces are inspired by nature — birds, f lowers, frogs, trees — and perhaps the most curious creature — people," added Kinney. The photography competition was open to residents of the Cumberland County region including Bladen, Cumberland, Harnett, Hoke, Lee, Montgomery, Moore, Richmond, Robeson, Sampson, Scotland counties, as well as Fort Bragg and Pope Army Air Field. This gave area residents a chance to show his or her best work with a com- petitive edge. Entrants received awards in three categories: black and white, color and digital manipulation. Awards for the juried competition totaled $1,000. Some of t he photos are displayed w it h a pr ice so ar t lovers may purchase t heir favor- ite photog raphs. The works are now on exhibit at the Art Council on 301 Hay Stree through Sept. 12. Art, of course isn't just photography. Art is music, acting, film, literature and dance and more. The Art Council of Fayetteville administers dif- ferent programs throughout the year to stimulate growth through art. Truly, the Arts Council has a hand in supporting art in every part of the com- munity. From Art Attacks at local parks and other venues, to workshops and educational lectures to grants for organizations and individual art- ists to arts in schools programs and community educational events like the Dicken's Holiday and the International Folk Festival, the Arts Council is serious about bring art to every corner of the community to make life better. Originally built in 1910, the Arts Councils Fayetteville/Cumberland County's building was used as an old post office. Now it delivers art, entertainment and insight on a regular basis. The Arts Council Fayetteville/Cumberland County invites the community to join them in celebrating a fresh point of view the Sept. 12.
