DeSANDRA WASHINGTON DR. DeSANDRA WASHINGTON, FTCC Dean of Spring Lake Campus, Contributing Writer. COMMENTS? Editor@ upandcomingweekly.com. 910.484.6200. The Fayetteville Technical Community College chapter of The National Society of Leadership and Success is an honor society available to FTCC students. Like most honorary orga- nizations, the Society uses Greek letters to distinguish itself on college campuses. But the Society is not a fra- ternity or a sorority. Those Greek letters, Sigma Alpha Pi, have special meaning to students. They stand for success, action, and purpose because success comes from continual action toward one's pur- pose. Whenever we see the Greek letters of Sigma Alpha Pi, it is our reminder of our commitment to ourselves and our communities to continually act toward a purpose that benefits us and others. By joining The National Society of Leadership and Success, FTCC students have an opportunity to participate in a community committed to helping each other achieve success and develop into strong leaders. Students are selected based on academic accomplishment, leadership potential, or nomination from campus stakeholders. Society membership places induct- ees among the top student leaders on campus. This professional leadership training provides an edge in the employment market for FTCC students. The National Society of Leadership and Success is one of the largest college leadership honor societies in the United States with hundreds of chapters. Students are able to access over $150,000 in awards and scholarships, earn a leader- ship certification (a valuable asset to a resume), attend exclusive events on campus, receive information about employer recruitments, access an exclusive online job bank, network with other top students on campus, and receive discounts to save hundreds of dollars on com- puters, textbooks, car insur- ance and graduate school preparatory courses. FTCC students must com- plete the steps of the pro- gram to become an inducted member of the Society. This includes attending an orientation and participating in "three threes" after orientation. "Three threes" involves participating in a three-hour Leadership Training Day where students learn the six foundations of leadership that establish the core of the program. The next step for students is to join a Success Networking Team and participate in the process — at least three SNT meetings focused on peer-to-peer goal-setting and accountability. SNT is going to be the personal support team as students make their way through the Society program along with others who share similar goals and challenges and encourage stu- dents to accomplish their dreams. And finally, the last step for FTCC students is to attend three speaker broadcast events. The speaker events give students access to leaders from around the nation, exposing them to ideas about topics including finances, philanthropy, leadership, creating and achiev- ing a vision, and more. The vision of the Society was inspired by a passion to help people believe in their own potential, a vision also embraced by Fayetteville Technical Community College through education.
